Big O Tires and Auto Service Centres

These guys used to be good but for some reason their prices have gone up. Every quote I got from them I was able to get done elsewhere for several hundred less. Quoted $ 800 for a brake job and got it done somewhere else for $ 350.

Back story: I had a messed up tire, someone recommended I call fountain tire. They tried to scam me for a large sum. Said no way, another friend recommended big o.
I called them up and the guy Chris went above and beyond for customer service. They not only offered a significantly lower price for the problem but also a variety of options for tires.
I’d recommend it to anyone who is in need of tires.

I was driving toward my showing appointment in the Highgate area of Burnaby in a huge rain. I turned on my wipers and the wipers were moving in slow motion. I wasn’t too sure if I was dreaming or awake. Why is it moving slowly? I shifted the wiper gear and made it go faster. It was still moving at slow motion. On the dash board the battery light went on! My panic started to build up. I completed my showing and came back to my car. The nightmare came true. My car won’t start even with several attempts. All I heard was tick-​tick-​tick-​tick sound. My vision shrink to very very narrow. My stress level sky rocketed. Thinking about all the consequences, my nerve was breaking down. Huge rain outside. Cold and I couldn’t go anywhere. I really hope that I was only in a dream.
I had jump cable in my trunk but with such rain no body will be willing to help me to jump. Calling a towl truck will increase the repair cost. Calling a friend to come and help? That could be an option but what if my friend couldn’t get it to work.
I decided to walk toward the community centre and see if there are any shop able to help me. I walked toward the community center for about 5 minutes and I saw the big sign «Big O Tires».
«My car won’t start. Would you be able to help?» I also showed him a video clip I took with my engine won’t start. The owner was very friendly, patient and walked with me toward my car.
20 minutes later, I was back into his Big O Tires shop. Hearing the damage report was almost like a heart attack. My car’s alternator was not sending enough charge to the battery which was in fairly good condition. I need to change the alternator. Part, labor and tax total $ 496 was my drive away price. What were my option?
I really hope I was only dreaming. But I couldn’t wake up from this dream.
I have no way of verifying shop’s reputation, I have no way of getting a 2^nd opinion. I also don’t have a mean to see the fairness of the price quote. And I need my car asap.
4:25 PM their shops was closing soon. I needed to make a decision.
The only mean left with me was my intuition.
I can’t detect anything wrong with the owner, the shop, and their diagnosis.
I took my leap of faith and jump into the unknown.
Long story short. I’m happy with their help, diagnosis, quote, service, and job. It’s a fair deal.
My car is now loaded with juice and a brand new alternator. Stress free and happy.
Thinking about it now. It was like a dream. When I wake up again tomorrow everything will be forgotten until my hood got open again and I will see that shiny new alternator.
