Beard Papa’s

They don’t accept the Vancouver coupons that I bought through a school fundraiser. If that was the case, they should post a sign. Disappointing.
Their cream puffs don’t taste good considering the amount of fat and calories it contains. If you are going to indulge, get the real cream puffs.
Green tea ice cream cone tastes good.

My wife and I are fans of this place. The puffs are always fresh. I recently tried their eclairs and loved them too. The only reason I cut one star from this place is their pricing strategy. I think it is a bit pricey comparing to its competitions.

One of my favourites, probably the friendliest service after Robson. The worse? Richmond’s Aberdeen but i digress…
Located inside the mall, across from Superstore. Usually long lineups but the trick is to come 15min. closing, sometimes they have deals, to sell off the day’s remaining inventory. Good sign they care about freshness for next day.
and they’re one of the few locations that consistently have the chocolate dipped paris breast: almost like a flatter donut, with their famous filling. It’s a waffle-​like texture compared to the regular cream puff, but itt’s all good!

I really like Beard Papa’s! They have a ton of chains throughout Van, so you know you’ll never be deprived of delicious Japanese cream puffs! If you go in the mornings the puffs are always fresh, fluffy and soft. If you go in the evening they tend to have discounts to get rid of stock.
The puffs are super airy and light, so you can easily have a few, even after a large meal haha! On different days they have special limited editions flavours, which are really neat! Service at most of their locations are super fast and efficient, you get your puff literally before you’re done pulling out your change!
It’s a bit pricer at $ 2 a puff, but you my opinion, so worth it Sure, there are a lot better desserts out there, but sometimes you just need a fix of sweet, pillowy cream wrapped in a soft, flaky shell! :D

My husband purchased 2 of each, strawberry, vanilla, and hazelnut cream puffs and to our disappointment when we open our box at home and discovered that all 6 of them were vanilla.. Called the store and the excuse was that they were busy.
Also 2 of them were a bit crispy, a bit burnt.
Definitely no quality control at the back of the bakery or the front of the bakery.
Will not purchase from there again.

I love the concept of large cream puffs. They’re my guilty pleasure, however, this location is not as awesome as the other ones. The crème inside my puff didn’t taste right in regards to consistency nor was it pumped and filled as it should. It still tasted good for junk food, just not as stellar as it once was. The customer service was neither here nor there and the kids working there always look and respond to you like dear in headlights, no basic retail skills. Prices are same as the other locations. I’ve been here a few times and it bugs me that there is never any consistency. $ 2 is a decent price. If you’re on a diet plan… do yourself a favor and not read the nutritional information… you will just horrify yourself. Just eat one and walk home.

Wahhh, I’m so disappointed about this particular location. The one in Aberdeen is a lot better. Here’s why this Beard Papa’s lacks:
1.) The puff shell was soggy! Or, more like chewy and weird. Wasn’t tasty or pleasant at all. I love it when it’s puffy and crispy.
2.) The filling is very inconsistent. Sometimes there will be a lot of flavor, sometimes it will be less. Also, their variety is kinda boring.
3.) Service is weird. On many occasions the clerk will not understand the order and you have to repeat it a whole bunch of times. Also, they forget things a lot — to put icing sugar on the puffs, to heat up the fondant etc.
I usually only come here if I have a craving for it, otherwise I usually go for other dessert options (Cinnezeo is a few stores down).

4-​stars for the cream filling (I got green tea flavor) it wasn’t too sweet and just the right consistency
–1 star because the shell wasn’t fresh… I understand that the shells are made early on in the day but at least heat it up when you’re about to serve it. My cream puff shell was quite chewy & stale

Their Vanilla Cream are not so sweet.
So you should ask double suger for puffs.

It worth to have a try

I don’t like cream puffs at all! However, I had a fresh cream puffs in Japan then I like it.
That’s so GOOD at Bread Papa’s! I love their green tea, coffee and chocolate flavour!
I know… $ 2 for a cream puff is not cheap but it’s fresh and delicious!

I made the mistake of checking into the nutritional information of their cream puffs. Bad decision! Why is it always the delicious ones that are in reality artery-​clogging monsters?! But whatever, I’m sure an occasional indulgence is a-​okay.
This location is near the main entrance to Superstore. Sometimes they will run out of flavours. If you go near closing time, they may have pre-​packaged cream puffs for a reduced price.

OH MY GOD. The chocolate coated cream puff with vanilla custard makes me tremble with excitement. It IS THAT GOOD!

I’ve tried these twice now and still can’t seem to make this worth $ 2 a pop in my head. The cream puffs are just o-​kay. The Green Tea puff was… different, I’m not sure if I like the flavour of it even though I love green tea in general.
I think I still prefer the traditional cream puff with whipped cream filling to these custard filled ones.

All of the way from Japan… Yum, the very famous tasty cream pastry puffs. They’re on the expensive side, but they’re okay to have once in a while. I’m not as blown away as I once tried it back when they first opened its first store in Canada at Aberdeen Centre years ago. I love the fact that they’re freshly made and all natural ingredients. Gotta love that!

I was hesitant to try this. I mean. it’s just a cream puff essentially right… seems like a calorie bomb to me, and doesn’t the cream just seem like a complete overload of. well… cream? Just didn’t seem appealing to me at all.
But today… I just thought — okay I will try once… not green tea, not chocolate, but the original vanilla beard papa. As I stood in line, trying to patiently wait for the slower folks in front of me to ask their million questions, I watched the worker behind the counter grab each puff, and watching the cream being injected into the pastry… and then weighing it to make sure it met the minimum weight (or max).
I finally got mine, dismissed the bag as I was going to eat it pronto and took my first bite — HOLY MOLY this is good! Kind of embarrassing I might add as the amount of cream was definitely generous. The pastry was flaky and not overly buttery.
This tastes exactly like the cream puffs you buy in a giant container at costcos — except not frozen. I’m still debating which ones I like better and beard papas might win because of its size!
