Great place to have a good beer(the homemade beer is very good, a bit fruity). Nice waiters in this old-style bar. We came here to have a drink before eating in the Leontine restaurant, just next to the bar. Great place to come with friends to drink. Quiet and relax atmosphere. View on the water.

If you like jenever(or gin) this is the spot. I tried Filliers jonge, 8-year oude and mango. If I get to go back to Gent, this will be on my must-go list. The place was no-frills, a little crusty with the game playing on the radio. Ambience? Not really. Awesome? Yes.

Great little hole in the wall. 2.20euro pints(sept 2015). Laid back atmosphere. People traffic is high. Cool local bands to boot. Cheers!

Oh my! What a fun place! The flavors… there isn’t much missing from this man’s variety and you will get a fine buzz devouring a few of these. However its hard to stop. I reccomend getting the small size shots so that you can really find out why this place is so special. They have a custard like gin that will detroy you, kindly. This is mentioned before, but it is SMALL, around 3 tables and room at the bar. Pol is a wonderful guy and very helpful with my non-dutch prononciations of menu items. When in Ghent, its a must.

I now know where Santa does out in the off season, he rather shockingly pushes shooters. That’s right in this tiny hole in the wall, found after going through a narrow alleyway, you will find him. Here he brews up some Jenever(Dutch gin) and other libations, it’s like an ice-cream store you choose your flavor from 100’s and 100’s of choices and he mixes your choice with Gin, and voila you have a customized shot. He can even help out if your looking for a stogey to go with your shots, well worth the trip.

This place gets packed! Unfortunately I was only here for one round, but it was damn good. 3.5 stars. Shots! I want to hit this place up again next time I am in Ghent.

I’ve been here more times than I can count… a ‘must see’ for anyone visiting this most amazing city!!! For 2-E per shot(of the flavors), you can definitely afford to try them all., or at least, many. But DO sip them, don’t shoot. And DO be nice to the local men who are always at the bar, and DOTRY to pronounce those jenever flavors… if you can:) Also, I’ve noticed it’s best on weeknights… not so full of tourists and more locals around, but even when it IS full, it’s still always fun. That surly old man(yes, nice title, agreed) has been there forever, and if you fancy the gin, go across the river and buy a few bottles, he’s got a shop open during the daylight hours there!!!

Jenever, genever, «dutch gin»: whatever you call it — this is the best place in the WORLD to come and try over 100 different flavored(and non-flavored) kinds served to you by the famous unenthusiastic legend Pol who’s usually smoking a cigar while serving. I’ve been here twice — I literally stumbled in her by chance my first time — now it’s my favorite place in Gent. I might take a train next week just to go then come home. I love it. It’s a tiny, intimate little room, and everyone’s there for the same purpose — to drink Jenever. It’s the international equalizer. The crowd is random — last time we had models, locals, young and the old. it’s a great way to meet people from and visiting Gent. Of note: * Jonge jenever — leaves a burn, but a good start * Jalapeño(pepper) jenever — think you can handle the heat? go on. give it a try * Violet jenever — one of a kind * Kreik(cherry) jenever — made in house — nice * Lemon jenever — classic It’s a «can’t miss» spot in Gent in my opinion. Stop by, try a few, but if you stay a while, don’t say that I didn’t warn you about one of one of the worst hangovers of your life.

Have a surly old man pour you a drink and give you the stink eye while you down another shot of jenever. He doesn’t say much, but it’s part of his charm. With every possible flavor you can imagine, you can stretch your euro pretty far here and end the night nicely toasted.
