My interest in Sir Anthony Van Dijck peaked when I learned that the chef gave his 2 Michelin stars back to the guide. So rebellious! Finding the restaurant was a bit difficult. The door isn’t marked with a number(or I couldn’t find the number!) only with a small sign. But once found, you walk right into the 16th century. It’s very magical. After walking under the vines, you enter the restaurant which is also cozy and beautiful. From the moment you encounter the staff, everyone is extremely friendly. Our waiter remained helpful intentive throughout the entire meal. My husband and I decided on the 4 course menu. Everything was delicious, with the scallops as the stand out dish. I will definitely come back, for lunch, dinner, or even just a drink outside if the weather’s good. A real gem!

Perhaps it was our choice to get the preset menu(which if you want to order for one, the whole table Must also get), but I wasn’t all too impressed with the food. Don’t get me wrong, it was good. It was tasty. But the way the reviews and a friend talked this place up, I was expecting my socks to be blown off. Perhaps next time, if I find my way through Antwerpen again, I may go with my gut and order the ris de veaux… which was an initial inkling. I’d try this place again just for the atmosphere alone… it was rather nice and cozy.

As one of the other reviewers states: a special occasion place. Staff is great, the restaurant itself beautiful, and the food is great. We had the 4-course gourmet menu, but«a la carte» also gives plenty of choice, the good news being that you get what you expect with a twist. For instance the bouillabaisse we got was quite different but very, very tasty nonetheless. It had been 15 years since I had been here and it still is a place that creates memories.

YESYESYES! Now THIS is a meal worth traveling for. If you want to impress someone in your life, this is the place to go. I’m going to go ahead and say that it’s one of my favorite restaurants in the *world*. So many meals that I’ve had have started to blur together for me, but this one is a major stand-out. The restaurant is situated on Vlaeykensgang, a secret street in the old part of town, so your evening starts with a bit of a trip back to the 16th Century…(except this trip back in time has martinis!) Starting with finding the place, it is a whole experience, more than a dinner out at a restaurant. We always order a la carte, but it seems as if most people decide to do the tasting menu. The interior, the service, the food is all impeccable. The cocktails are terrific(they’re not always so good in Europe) and the wine is totally amazing. There is a cozy little bar in the back, if you want to take it long into the night. I have always found the crowd and the staff to be really friendly. Discreet, but friendly. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re reading this, you should go for it, make a reservation, and check it out! You’ll never forget this special experience.

Special occasion place. Very small and tucked away in the old town. The chef had two Michelin stars and resigned them to focus on the business and not meeting michelin’s reqts. One of the best restaurants in Belgium and that is saying a lot.
