the restaurant showed up in the book that came with the Antwerp card recommended by a local. not easy to find as its down a steep stairwell after navigating some medieval alleys. trust me its worth the effort. you end up in a barreled vault room what is warm and cozy. the menu is skewed towards steak and lamb and they are cooked on the open hearth. they bring you some nice spiced olives along with bread cooked on the hearth. really great beginning! we had the pâté which is almost as good as you would get in the dordogne. the steaks were excellent cooked right on the open fire along with the baked potatoes. great service, great food and a distinct atmosphere. i i lived in Antwerp this would be my default restaurant not fancy but great food in a wonderful atmosphere. old vaulted basements like this are unusual as i have traveled widely and only in Cordoba and in obuda(Budapest) have i found a similar basement.

Hidden gem in the heart of Antwerp. You definitely have to know where you’re going to find this place. You go through a dark alleyway and take the stairs to a tiny entrance down the basement. In the basement like place, you will find a cozy fireplace where they grill all of their meat. The best lamb I have had thus far. They cook the lamb and potato right in front of you in the fire. Waiter is the owner. amazing!!!
