Step through the Paifang Gate and discover Asia by walking into Chinatown Antwerp; just a short walk from Antwerp Central, one of world’s most beautiful stations, and the Antwerp Zoo. Compared to other Chinatowns in Europe, Antwerp Chinatown could easily be named as «Little Chinatown». Still, Van Wesenbekestraat is dominated by restaurants where u can taste the finest and most authentic Cantonese dishes u’ll find in Antwerp: from dimsum(e.g. The Best, DK) to noodles(e.g. Bai Wei). Or head towards one of the many Chinese supermarkets(e.g. Sun Wah). Treat urself some puffy crust egg tarts at the Chinese pastry shop(St. Anny Food). Or u can even book a flight at a Chinese travel agency(e.g. Wabi Travels). So, if u’ve never been to Chinatown before: Hush, hush, and rush to Antwerp Chinatown and treat ur taste buds to an oriental adventure. Last but not least a safety tip! Chinatown Antwerp is also located in the so-called«bad» neighborhood. The area is generally very safe during the day, but try to avoid it in the early morning or in the middle of the night.

In 2001 the city counsels gave a GO for placing the 4 handmade lions in front of the Van Wesenbekestraat. They guard the chinese quarter. It has been the coming of the Sun Wah in 1976 that made the Antwerp people more familiar with the chinese culture. You can find all kind of Asian food shops and restaurants in this street. From Tibetan bakery till Thai restaurants. Another shitty review by the shitty guide of Antwerpen.
