Place rating: 5 Vienna, Austria
I thought long and hard before adding this gem to Unilocal, but since Pulker’s Heuriger was widely reviewed — both in Austria and internationally — and the word is out, it is only fair to point my fellow Unilocalers into this direction. I have been here multiple times and my review is based on that. Don’t walk to Pulker’s Heuriger — RUN!!! Foremost, giving Pulker’s only 5 stars does not do it justice, since it deserves 10. A meal at Pulker’s is not only a meal — it is a religious experience! I will make this short and sweet, as you can read all of the expert reviews and articles about Pulker’s Heuriger on their web site. The food is absolutely exquisite! At Pulker’s Heuriger cooking is not about the technique but about the ingredients. The Schweinsbraten(roasted pork) is out of this world and the best I ever had in my life! There isn’t a single Vienna heuriger that comes even close or that is in the same vicinity with the quality, freshness and flavors that you will experience at Pulker’s. Everything that I tasted there was a hit. Goat cheese with tomatoes, chives, herbs in olive oil and balsamic vinegar — wow! Cheese spreads, pork fat spreads, deer sausages — all amazing. Simple, honest and bursting with flavor. The wine selection is likely one of the better ones in the entire country and possibly in the region. It is worth mentioning that the owner, Bernd Pulker is a top sommelier(and a very cool dude) who knows a thing or two about wine, and only serves the best — both from the region as well as France, for example. I could go on about food, wine or about the amazing back yard in the middle of a vineyard with a view of the right bank of river Danube and terraced vineyards of Wachau, but the words won’t do it justice. So, the only other thing I would recommend is bringing along a designated driver and making a reservation weeks in advance. Pulker’s is open between mid-March to early-November and closed for a winter hiatus. Cheers!
