A good tapas-style restaurant to go out in a small group or large. Cocktails are nice, staff are really nice and helpful. My husband and I were there once busy night and the waitress apologized for not being able to be as attentive as normal because it was busy and they were understaffed. We hadn’t even noticed, they were still lovely. The food is great generally. I’ve really enjoyed the croquettes and cornettos, the kale and miso salad. The duck was a little overdone and dry, unfortunately, but the flavored were still lovely.

Great little spot, definitely recommend going for one of the set menus. Personally 5 courses is enough for me. Been here half a dozen times or so, sometimes dishes are hit or miss — had a salmon dish that was way too salty, tasted like the top had come off the salt shaker. Really cool décor, friendly staff, just needs a little bit of work on the food and it’d be perfect.

Dig A Pony makes complicated tapas simple again. It’s exciting and adventurous enough that the menu is filled with tasty small and large plates that are easy to try and filled with flavour. We picked the chefs selection eight plates and the food rapture began. First came out the Cauliflower Popcorn with roast garlic aioli, which needed more aioli to be perfect. The mac’n’cheese croquettes were next and they didn’t disappoint. The ocean trout and granny smith apple cornetto was amazing. The mix of sweet and savoury is not my ideal combo, but the consistency of this small bite proved my ideal is not always reliable. The Mushroom Cannelloni with parmesan mousse and mushroom ketchup is to die for, but mushroom haters; this won’t change your mind. The Confit Salmon with clams, pancetta and savoy cabbage was cooked to perfection, that salmon literally melted my heart. The clams added character to this small plate. When I thought this couldn’t get any better, the Wagyu Brisket came out with braised wagyu beef, celeriac remoulade and pickled radish was as tender as if butter was mellowing out in the Sun. Then desert came violet crumble with vanilla ice-cream and churros with awe-inspiring warm chocolate sauce. What better way to end a selection of awesome plates with a sweet climax. The Apple Crumble cocktail was divine and went well with all the dishes served. The waiter was fantastic as he did his best to work within a time limit as we were catching a movie afterwards which is down the road at the lovely Sun Theatre. The food is fabulous; you wouldn’t have picked it being a two-storey bluestone hotel. The lowlight ambience adds to its charm, while the price is a bargain.

What a random find this place is, but it’s definitely a winner! Inspired by the Beatles song, Let it Be, Dig A Pony is very cool. The menu is all about the sharing and presented with finesse. Everything sounds delicious and it was considering we practically ordered everything on the menu. I’m talking spanner crab and avocado cornettos, cauliflower popcorn, duck a’ l’orange and macaroni and cheese croquettes — YUM! The building is heritage listed, and all you want to know is what treasures lie behind the bluestone walls. The dining room is charming with a royal rock vibe about it. Grand windows, red velvet curtains, dark woods and gold fabric chairs sets the scene to this almost hidden gem. They specialise in cocktails and even serve alcoholic ginger beer. The staff are very knowledgeable and professional, so you feel like a rockstar for a night. If you can’t decide on what to order, they offer ‘Chef’s Selection’ 5 or 8 plate sharing menus.

Let’s just be very clear about one thing. If Unilocal didn’t pay me to be a scout there’s no way in hell I’d tell you about this place. It’s like the ultimate secret of the West. Tucked away in a side street in Yarraville is Dig a Pony. A tapas bar with a chef poached from Middle Park’s Santiago and a wine list to rival the best. In Winter there’s an open fire and lots of places to perch. Most food intolerances can be catered to just by letting the waitstaff know. I’d love to tell you more, but frankly I need to see if I can get a booking for this place later tonight. Writing about it has got me drooling.
