My first meal in Australia– kangaroo meat! I was looking around Brisbane restaurant that serves kangaroo meat and this was one of the best one in the area located in West End. Even though the portions are small, the taste is awesome! I’ll say the kangaroo meat is the best meat that I’ve ever eaten. It was very tender and flavourful. I wish this restaurant serves kangaroo burgers. If they will, I’ll get that next time. I’ll give 5 stars for the food but 4 stars for the service. A bit slow and servers were not very attentive. If you’re paying in cash, be prepared to wait as they run around looking for change. I’ll definitely come back here again. Maybe I’ll try the emu meat next time.

Excellent specifically Australian restaurant. The presentation is a bit nouvelle cuisine, which works for me, as I don’t have a big appetite. They really know how to make food work though. The restaurant itself is a bit hot in summer, but hey, it’s Australia, right?

All you have heard about this place, and particularly about the degustation, is true. The full 7 course degustation is amazing, and it is expensive($ 115 without drinks). This being our final dinner as Brisbanites we «went for it» thanks to a tip from Steven L. The degustation was just awesome. There is no other word for it. Totally 5-star material. It started with a little amuse(for the table — only two of us had ordered the degustation) consisting of braised possum and greens from the garden. After this, we were served in order: 1. Native plate. Totally.Amazing. The damper was fantastic, the berries were so unusual and juicy and perfect. The small cuts of croc, emu, and roo, were a good indication of what was to come later! 2. Cairns crocodile with strawberry endive salad. Look, we only wanted *tender* crocodile and that’s what we got! Now, if only we could emulate this one day and produce something like this when cooking at home… 3. Possum belly with apple sauce. Excellent flavor combo; delicious. Also available as entrée from the à la carte. Recommended. 4. Palate cleanser. Again(nice!) for the whole table; this was on the sweet side sweet and could have been a bit smaller. 5 Tasmanian pepper berry seared Kangaroo. Best kangaroo I’ve had. The pepper berry was excellent with this. Really good. 6. Emu. Favorite for me. Fantastic cut; hard to believe it’s a bird. Just fantastic. Again, is available from the à la carte menu. 7. Desert. chocoloate, ice cream etc. You know, the whole deal. Nice to finish a great meal with a sweet dish. Also, some great wines. The $ 60 Battle for the Barossa(Temperanillo-Grenache blend) was particularly nice. So, why on Earth no 5 stars? Well, I often write my reviews based on total experience including that of table partners. In this case we had three people ordering from the à la carte menu and although the entrees(possum belly and clams) were good, the mains were a disappointment. The fish of the day was Barramundi, but the serving was really very small. The rabbit was very dry and lacked flavor; the 2 people who had this both did not finish their plate. Truth be told, this was dealt with very gracefully by the chef who took one dish off our final bill. Still, it is disappointing to have a few poor dishes. So, in summary, the degustation was amazing and I would most definitely recommend this to anyone. It ain’t cheap but it’s great and worth every penny.

I bought my American boyfriend here thinking it would’ve spectacular. Slow service food was at the most average. Meat was dry. Really unimpressed given the prices. I have been to urbane in Brisbane city — similar prices and style of dining — tukka is not even comparable with urbane. I’m happy to pay top price but expect a ton more!

Dinner at tukka. Nice food; the yabbie tortellini was the better entrée. Lamb and sole mains were both nice. And the desert plate for 2 was extra nice. Service, with one waiter doing the best he could, suffered and service was slow. Otherwise a good night. :-)

We were here with my family and found it to be everything expected and then some. The food was authentic Australian we had possum pie, wallaby shank, kangaroo, salmon, emu and then some. With game like this it is generally considered difficult to cook and the results as previously experienced in other establishments did not meet expectations: not so at Tukka, everything was tender, tasty and terrific. We ordered a couple of parochially named cocktails to start«lilly pilly cosmo» was one, which went down well with our group and ordered a couple of bottles of «Kangarilla Sangiovese» which was superb with the food, it was my first experience of the wine and have been on the lookout for it ever since. When next we are back in Australia, which will be soon, Tukka will be on the itinerary.

My first ever 5 course degustation, so I was verry excited! I was even more excited because we were going to Tukka, where we got to sample of range of «authentic Australian cuisine» including native species of nuts, berries and critters. It was pricey — and a bit pretentious for my liking — but then I’m not a fine dining aficionado. Tukka’s won a string of awards, the food was very good and there were some taste sensations on the Native Plate. This consisted of a selection of native fruits and nuts including quandongs, midjimberries and native desert limes, along with a seared and a prosciutto style taste of crocodile and of emu. The seared emu encrusted with native pepper was my favourite among the meats(or is emu poultry?). The damper was great and the dukka of bush spices was really good. The guys with us though the ceviche of crocodile had too much strawberry and raspberry accompaniment to get any true flavour of the croc, but we all enjoyed the next course of seared ‘roo fillet with lemon myrtle jus; it was tasty and less ‘gamey’ than any kangaroo meat we’d tried before. The dessert and cheese plates were yummy and we were well satisfied by the time we pushed our chairs back from the table.

I came here for a birthday once with my then-partner, which was great because I didn’t have to pay for my meal. Because as much as I enjoyed myself there is no way in the seven realms that I could ever afford this place! Tukka prides itself on being up class, ‘modern Australian’ cuisine. What is that exactly? Think Emu, Kangaroo, Crocodile, Possum(yes, really. Tastes like Chicken), damper, Lamb, Barramundi, and Prawns, seasoned with bush herbs. There is a vegetarian option on both the entrée and the mains menus, but how un-Australian of you. Vegetarians, keep away. The food is delicious. Cooked perfectly and full of flavour and as fresh as it gets, just don’t expect big portions. These are pricey dishes served french style; small. Definitely try the native platter as an entrée. Never in my life had I imagined falling in love with the humble damper. The atmosphere of Tukka is intimate and classy and the waiters are highly knowledgeable about the dishes and the impressive wine selection all of which comes from Australia. They will even suggest wines to compliment your meal choice. The lunch menu is much less vast than the dinner menu, but who can go past a Kangaroo Panini served with tomato quandong chutney, jindi triple cream brie, caramelised onions and a side of bush tomato spiced potatoes? Not I. Definitely a place to bring someone you want to impress, or when you have a fair bit of cash to splash around. I love it, but my wallet doesn’t. It’s nice that there is a place that you really get your money’s worth though.
