Herdsman Lake Tavern

I came to see a musical act on the weekend at the side room.
I love that they support local bands and do not charge when you go watch them.
There is a range of high and low seating — the only bad thing to say is that there is nothing particularly special about this place. I don’t think I would be a regular here.

I headed to ‘The Herdy’ for my Grandmother in law’s 84^th birthday.
She loves a good pub meal and wanted to head somewhere that was grandkid friendly. This venue was certainly that. It was so kid friendly that it wasn’t very friendly for people who don’t have kids. There’s an indoor playground and children running around everywhere, and it’s very loud! It’s quite intense if you’re nursing a hangover.
Food was average pub grub. This place is perfect if you’re looking for a place to hold a family occasion with lots of kids involved, there was a post-​christening party on while we were there and it’s a great spot for exactly that kind of thing.

So close to home, the Herdy has become our regular. They offer a restaurant menu as well as a bistro menu which has a selection of really nice meals in the bar for $ 12 any day of the week.
It’s really not bad for a $ 12 menu!
A few times we have decided to «splash» out and eat at the restaurant. A new menu was recently introduced and has a large selection!
Service at times have been bad, and then other times great! On a few occasions we have also had the wrong meals come out because staff didn’t know the menu and also didn’t know what was and what wasn’t gluten free, though the faults were corrected without a worry.
It’s really kid friendly too and has an indoor play ground for the young ones and a separate kids menu which is great for parents looking for a family night.

Despite so many live music venues in Perth closing their doors The Herdsman is starting to flourish, holding more and more gigs with local and interstate bands.
I have been to quite a few gigs here and the bands are always of a solid calibre and the sound man has been on point.
They do a $ 12 steak which has varied from pretty good to definitely exceeding expectations but I’m not sure if this is a special on a certain night or an all the time thing.

This tavern has now been overtaken by families! They have installed a soundproof kids playroom in the dining area and most nights its packed! They currently also do kids entertainment and kids eat free Sunday nights. Food is nothing to write home about but worth a visit to eat with the kids.

Maybe it’s because I grew up in the country but I’m getting really tired of developers who knock down good pubs, and replace them with bars full of girls who have spent three hours getting ready only to drink too much and do a «Britney» courtesy of their ever shorter skirts.
And this is why I love the Herdy. It isn’t pretentious, and I hope it stays that way. It was recently refurbished it, and the bistro has a nice feel to it. It’s very spacious, and I really enjoy being able to mosey on here in my havi’s for parmi night on Thursdays.
Herdy — please don’t ever change.

As anyone who lives in Glendalough will know, there aren’t that many pubs within walking distance where you can just stroll in and have a few beers on a Sunday or after a hard day’s work. Herdsman Lake Tavern isn’t the most exciting of places, but it serves its purpose nonetheless.
It is the epitome of a dive bar — a few old lads in the corner drinking pints and watching the screen to see if the bet they put on in the adjoining bookies comes through, so never, under any circumstances, come in here in anything fancier than trainers and a tshirt!
There’s nothing more in this world that I like to do to relax than have a few quiet beers and play a few games of pool with my mates, and for this the Herdsman Lake Tavern is perfect. There’s also a pool tournament on here on a Wednseday for anyone who is in any way good at pool (not me then).
As I said, you won’t find a raging crowd here, but if you know what you’re getting yourself in for before you get here than you won’t be disappointed!
