Queensland winter isn’t cold relatively speaking, but some days the sun just hides away.
Last week I had one of those days and I needed — yes needed — something hot to eat. Enter the calamari and hot chips from down the road for lunch.
I didn’t expect much but it was really delicious and fresh. The rest of the menu looked pretty good and I’ll definitely be going back. Exactly what a freezing cold Louise desperately wanted.

I was very hungover on a Wednesday afternoon. I went in wearing my pajamas. I was not wearing my glasses, so I couldn’t read the menu. I told the manager I just wanted «about this many chips», gesturing with my hands. I think he got me, on a deep spiritual level. After about five minutes wait, he brought me the exact amount of chips I wanted, and sent me on my way.
I will always remember this kindness. You have a customer for life, sir.

We always used to go to Trawler Fresh for fish and chips, but seeing the «Under New Management» sign here decided to give them a try — and we were very impressed. The fish was very fresh, the batter was light and crunchy and the chips were cooked just right. We will definitely be coming back, particularly as the standard at Trawler Fresh is not what it used to be.
