Whenever I take friends for one of my «famous» walking tours of Sydney, Walsh Bay is always on the«route». I love this place. I don’t even need to go to the restaurants or bars and I’ve not even been to the Sydney Theatre Company! With it’s old warehouse buildings/wharfs stretching out into the harbour, still with their ageing thick wooden floors that look like they may be susceptible to wood worm, it really does carry a lot of charm. Plus, for an area that is so close to the CBD, it’s remarkably quiet! There’s plenty to do too, with restaurants along the water side and along Hickson Road, where you’ll also find the aforementioned theatre, the Sydney Theatre and the Sydney Dance Company, should you be yearning a little artistic culture! There is also the rather odd sight of a small car crushed by a rock in the middle of a roundabout along the road, which looks like an unfortunate accident but is apparently art(with the catchy name of «Still Life with Stone and Car»), which is part of the Walsh Bay Sculpture Walk. So, if you are on a walking tour of Sydney and you need a little break from the crowds, head down to Walsh Bay for a bit of a wander!
