In my opinion the best Indian in Adelaide. Around the corner from where I live which is a dangerous temptation when you can smell it from your back door. Chicken Korma is always a favourite. Try their goat curry for something different. Melt in the mouth tender. I find the service time to be excellent on all the occasions I’ve dined in or had takeaway. It’s my go to for great Indian and never disappoints.

The place is very nice. The staff very friendly. The décor is pleasant enough. The food. Well they make a nice curry. Not the best, but by no means the worst that’s for sure. A good selection of flavours to be had for both mains and sides. They make a nice Naan Bread too.

Plenty of parking close by. The wait times for our food wasn’t long. We had chicken pakoras, they were amazing! The butter chicken was nice(my dinner friend always orders butter chicken). The beef korma was ok I have had better elsewhere though. The cheese and garlic naan was great. The daal was a stand out for me. Loved the daal. They have a deal on entertainment card so we saved 25% of our total meal. They also allowed us to take the leftovers home in takeaway containers.

Having lived in Adelaide for well over a year now and tried to find Curries close to the quality I’m used to back in the UK the British Raj is the best I’ve had yet by a long way. Quality food, very affordable, impeccable service, it was hard to find a fault with the meal we had last night. Good spice levels, great variety. As an update ‘the raj’ delivers to most surrounding areas with a $ 45 minimum charge for the service. Some advise: a lamb mysore is a lovely dish here.

In my quest to find the best Indian takeaway in Torrensville, I have had a few trips and falls. I wouldn’t classify British Raj as a fall, but maybe a trip. It isn’t great but it isn’t the worst Indian takeaway I’ve ever had. British Raj opened recently on Henley Beach Rd, opposite the Foodland. When I came to pick up my takeaway I had my hopes — the interior was quite pleasant, a crowd of people eating, a nice bar, wooden tables and chairs, pictures on the walls and big old ornate grates. The takeaway prices were very cheap — which isn’t usually an indicator of much, I’ve had great Indian for a pittance and terrible expensive Indian. My father is Indian, and my sister and I were raised on a diet of wholesome home-style curries — a far cry from the oily, creamy fare that you find in most Indian restaurants. British Raj wasn’t much different from the usual, but it wasn’t terrible. A touch on the oily side, but at least the vegetables weren’t cooked to within an inch of their lives. The meal-for-one takeaway deal is certainly a great bargain — $ 16 for a vegetable main, meat main, naan bread, rice and parathas. In future though, I think I might shell out the extra money and try the chef’s specialties. I got the spinach lamb and the aloo gobhi(a tumeric vegetable curry). The spinach was nice and green and tasty, I would have preferred a little less lamb though. The aloo gobhi was definitely too oily for me — when I reheated some this morning there was a very thick orange layer on top. They were generous with the veges and didn’t turn them into sludge, but I was a little suspicious there was some frozen diced veg in there — can’t prove that though! All in all, not amazing, but I’d give it another shot and order from the slightly pricier dishes.
