Best chicken laksa I’ve tried. Good option for lunch. Only open for dinner on Thursdays though.

‘Jimmy’s Recipe’ is a Malaysian restaurant just around the block from home and when the chicken in my fridge that I had planned to cook for dinner smelled a little funky, it was the perfect excuse to go check it out. Not that one ever needs an excuse for laksa! It’s a very casual place on the outside of the World Square complex. Despite it’s central location it was pretty quiet. It’s got plenty of inside and outside seating and takeaway is available. I ordered a chicken laksa and teh tarik. The laksa, while very tasty, fell a little flat. I think it was just missing some of the flavour variances you find in a really good laksa. Nevertheless it was still perfectly enjoyable. The teh tarik was light and bubbly. I liked it a lot. Friendly staff, good prices, good food and a handy location. Good stuff.

I was on my way to another restaurant for Malaysian food and came across this place — it was fairly reasonable in terms of pricing so I thought I try it out — it was pretty good. I had the Murtabak which was very good — a nice fried bread/dough folded and stuffed with savory chicken. I really liked their version of this dish since it tasted very good and wasn’t too greasy. I also had a plate of the Rendang Beef, which was just okay — it was a big heaping portion of the savory and heavily-spiced meat dish with rice, but it was really oily and didn’t have the flavor one would expect from this complex dish… the meat was tender, but for all the spices that went into this dish, it lacked flavor. Everyone seems to rave about the Laksa… maybe I should have had that… next time I guess!
