Long have I lusted over the red patent leather, open-toed ballet flats topped with a giant bow, but — despite first spotting the covetable pair over a year ago — their $ 265 price tag has refused to shrink. The Alex & Alex concept store is an unlikely find on grungy Erskine Street, full of their colourful, retro inspired designs. Office workers will welcome the range of attractive low-heeled shoes, a height for which it can often be difficult to find worthwhile purchases. Stilettos abound as well — the bright blue pumps catch me eye on a recent visit — and customers will probably note the use of real snakeskin across all their creations. While modern designs are for sale, I’d say they are most well known for their adorable vintage look peep toes with high and kitten heels, featuring a knot of fabric wrapped over the front section. In the meantime, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a sale.

Death by beauty — could this be the symbolism behind the eye catching skull that is the platform for the shoe display in the front window of the shoe shop Alex & Alex. I would rather wear my shoes to death than the other way around or least until I cast my eye on another pair. And eye catching these Alex & Alex shoes are. The manager of Alex & Alex informs myself and another customer that each snakeskin shoe is not only quality it is real authentic snakeskin(so perhaps the skull represents death of animals for beauty?) and I find myself mesmerised by a pair of green stilettos and I forget myself as I find myself stroking them to feel the tiered layer of snakeskin in my hand. The shoes in this shop are stunning not only in colour but also in variety, styles and height. They are all handmade pairs of shoes and it’s likely you won’t find these on any other feet if you choose to purchase them. Heel haute couture at its finest. A must see store to appreciate some amazing heels.
