A little trickier to find than most places this Montezuma’s location is definitely one of the more fun on the Gold Coast. If you have spent any time in Mexico or California you may be somewhat offended/surprised by our Aussie brand of Mexican BUT hey– I eat here on a pretty regular basis and adore the location, the service and(of course) the food. If you’re knew to the establishment you cannot go wrong with the trio of dips(for a starter) with guacamole, Cheese dip + beans… I actually prefer to get to large bowls of guac and then the chilli con queso and bailing on the beans myself but always find I get too full before my main. The enchiladas here are excellent– the chicken and sour cream are the best by far(in my opinion) The bar here is well stocked and the margheritas are definite«must try’s» along with the sangria and the chilli tequila shots :)

ummmm… no Maybe i’m just a spoiled San Diegan that has had too much exceptional mexican food??? It’s possible, but, I went in really excited to try mexican food with a different spin on it and with a very open mind. I figured if it was nothing like what i was used to, at least the food will be tasty and enjoyable… wrong! I don’t think they really even try. The beans, i’m pretty sure were from a can, and the rice was tasteless. I ordered a beef plate and got a chicken one instead. I was warned not to say anything in fear of… well, you know… But I just thought«well, things happen for a reason right?!» I’m still trying to figure out why… The chicken was super bland and the only thing that helped was the cheese, because who doesnt like cheese, right?! Any way, I tried to like it but it just wasnt happening. My husbands plate looked like fireworks were going to come shooting out the top! So i was pretty excited to try that – it even had bananas and pineapple(never seen that before. But again, not great and tasted funny – actually it tasted like Indian cuisine but not great. They also dont seem to have a good reputation, by the sounds of others opinions. The only great thing about this place is their 2 for 1 meals on thursdays. It’s a great deal, if you have a meal/dish there that you like. Oh and the sangria… don’t do it, yuck. No idea how you can screw up sangria.
