Pretty good; it’s like eating the entire food nutritional pyramid in one go. You can have just about anything and everything on your chosen potatoes, and it will mean that most of your essential vitamins and nutrients are delivered in one sitting. I don’t know how they get the potatoes to be cooked so well; they’re just gorgeous– fluffy moist and soft. Perfection each time. The whole cutting the potato with the scissors is alarmingly odd, but I suppose its the most effective method. A wide range of toppings are available, as are a selection of formulated menu potatoes, which ion the whole are quite good. It is a very healthy and filling meal, and one that serves as a winning combination. In a word; superlative. Spud bar is far superior to the grape sized half cooked potato with one flake of cheese costing $ 13. Shambles. These are usually served at the Melbourne show, pet expo and other such events.

YUMMMMMMY! I’m a big fan of baked potatoes but cooking them at home in the microwave or going to Wendy’s(an American fast food chain) have got NOTHING on Spudbar =) This place has got tons of options and provides a salad bar of toppings in order for you to create whatever perfect unique bowl you desire. I’ve come here a few times now with the intention of eating next door at Lentil’s. I’m not sure why we always end up here but it’s a cheap quick meal that I clearly enjoy. They’ve got limited seating but on a nice day, it’s great to sit outside along the big wooden table beside the street or to grab it to go and walk down towards the water with your spuds.

Someone once told me to forget everything I had ever known about a baked potato and try SpudBar. He was completely right and now that is exactly how I describe it to newbies who scoff at the thought of a bakes potato being delicious. Rich in nutrients, with way less calories than pasta, rice or bread, SpudBar takes an average joe potato and bakes it till it is crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside. Then the winning formula comes by choosing your filling. There are so many to choose from and it really depends on what your tastebuds are craving for. I’m usually torn between home style bolognaise($ 10.90), crispy bacon and cheese($ 10.50), chilli bean and mushroom($ 9.90) and the Moroccan chicken($ 11.90). And if that isn’t enough to drive you wild, you can also opt to create your own crazy spud concoction. Whatever your fancy, I’m sure you’ll be back for more.

When Spud Bar first opened everything about it made sense. Very affordable, fresh, healthy, cool, satisfying. It was the perfect place anytime of the year to come for either lunch or dinner. I would actually struggle to finish as well. Then things slowly started to change and for some stupid reason the franchise must have thought that the consumer would not notice. Well I noticed. The price started to go up, the serving sizes started to shrink(the boxes and bowls), the fresh and healthy aspects of course stayed the same. Because these changes spud bar was losing some support and became less cool and less satisfying. There have been some recent branding changes and new additions to the menu and I think that it may have revitalised the business a little bit but in my opinion a potato with fillings should be a little cheaper than it has become or bring back the large serving sizes with no limits to the amount of toppings I can put on, I am limited by the size of the bowl which should be enough. Used to be a 5 star now a 3.

Finding(relatively) healthy fast food in this city, or anywhere for that matter, is no mean feat. In comes Spudbar. The great thing about this place is that you can alter your toppings depending on how health conscious you’re feeling that day. Feeling a little weight wary? Go for the Fresh Vegie, made up of baby spinach, tomato, corn, peas, broccoli, humous, tzatziki. Happy to eat anything and everything regardless of fat content? Choose the Chili Beef and Bacon Bolognese, made up of beef bolognese, bacon, chili flakes, tasty cheese, shredded cabbage, light sour cream and chives. There are a huge range of flavours to choose from, and you can even mix things up a bit and go for a sweet potato.

After something that’s healthy, filling and has all your favourite pizza toppings? Well look no further than Spud Bar, they pride themselves on creating a healthy and tasty meal idea that won’t pile on the pounds. I love Spuds not only are they a great source of fibre and nutrients but baked in their jackets they taste great! At Spud Bar they have a huge range of topping options if you want to cut the fat you can go for things like broccoli, beetroot, mushrooms, tzatziki or hommus. Or if your wanting something a little heavier you may opt for cheese, chilli beans or salsa any of these are yummy and filling options. The servings at Spud Bar are generous but not ridiculous, the flavours will leave you satisfied and can be the perfect meal breakfast, lunch or dinner.
