Pure Pop Records is more than your average music store due to its nifty multipurpose courtyard out the back. In the courtyard, Pure Pop holds live music, trivia nights, stand up comedy, movie nights, function events and more. It has a great vibe and is always a chilled place to hang out regardless. I might have a bigger love for it due to my dream of own a records store(because it seems like such a cool job). The music is constantly cool and never something you will hate where sitting out the back hanging is a pleasure. The staff their love the job(yes, I’m a tad jealous) and they have beer on tap so it just gets better and better. Pure Pop is a great venue, although it’s small, to have birthdays and functions where everything I’ve attended their has seemed special as you are one of only 30 people invited. In fact, I would go as far as saying that Pure Pop is more a cool place to hang out and go to events where if you really like what’s being played on the loud speaker, then you have the choice to buy the music as well! It is a fast growing venue and popularity is going up so this might only be a quiet spot for a while. Maybe get in quick so you can be one of those people who say, «I remember Pure Pop Records when it only had a tiny courtyard out the back»; because I have a feeling it might outgrow itself.

Pure Pop is Melbourne’s only record store, music venue, café & licensed bar all in one. Selling records you wont find in most larger chain stores, and usually supplied by the artists to the store themselves, it’s a great place to check out some local flavour by artists who know the merit of putting out their own tunes in vinyl format. Dave will help make your mind up with his vast knowledge of what he’s selling, and is usually there in person to answer your questions before buying. As a café, you can also grab a coffee or a toasted sandwich to enjoy whilst you browse, or if you like your drinks cold an alcoholic there’s a little bar out the back in the courtyard. Serving beer on tap and a small bottled selection, Pure Pop’s courtyard also hosts live music in the afternoons on weekends. It’s a great place to spend a summer arvo. With a few nagging locals trying to pull the pin on this little venture, sometimes the live music takes place in the store itself, with the acts crooning away in the corner as shoppers browse. Acts include touring bands doing instores and local flavour keen to show their wares, usually coinciding with a new release that you can pick up from the act themselves.
