Food’s fine, location’s great: nice place for a cup of coffee. Should be noted that there is NOWI-FI here though.

The Fringe Café is one of the nicest cafes on Acland Street in St Kilda. They have a great menu where they have a perfect spot towards the Luna Park end of the strip where it’s great for breakfast, brunch or lunch in between shopping or generally hanging out in St Kilda. With its top location, it doesn’t take much for you to like this café. They offer a fairly simple but good menu where the burger I had wasn’t greasy and was filling. Coffee is good and the waiters are friendly and relaxed. On such a hectic street Fringe have managed to encapsulate a relaxed and calm feel so when you sit down the hustle and bustle of the street doesn’t bother you. Although you’re looking at $ 15-$ 25 for a breakfast meal, it’s basically the only relaxed café I can find on the street and others I’ve spoken too tend to agree. So for almost that reason alone, I will be back again.

Once you hit the end of Acland Street, just before the Vineyard, you’ll find Fringe — a funky little café with all the charm of a typical hip St Kilda eatery, serving typical café fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Posters cover the walls inside and an array of couches and timber chairs are provided for seating. This chilled, bohemian venue serves the best chicken and aioli focaccias I think I’ve ever tasted and is best known for its all day«hang over cure» breakfasts. Meals are reasonably priced between $ 10-$ 15 and the bar is stocked with wines and spirits, available by the glass. The friendly staff make this hang out a relaxed place to eat and socialise. Definitely recommended!

Another café/restaurant/bar in St Kilda! There are so many here that at times they all blur into one another for me, and in many ways are interchangeable. The Fringe Café does stand out a little for me, as a chilled out boho spot that doesnt try too hard to be cool, a refreshing thing amongst all these café/bars. On the corner of packed Acland st, the outdoor tables and chairs are a comfortable spot to people watch and waste your time away. The lamb and mango chutney burger is delicious, and a nice twist on the every day regular old beef burger. The food comes out quickly when they are slow, however when they get a bit busier the service does drop a little. The staff are still friendly, but their attentiveness isnt quite the same. I’d recommend trying the Fringe Café, its a nice alternative to the popular Vineyard next door, if you are headed that way and there is a wait.

Made infamous by the cult series«The Secret Life of Us», Fringe is an iconic café located right on the corner of Acland street. To me, Fringe is the epitome of everything great about St Kilda. Somehow, it just oozes appeal and style, without even looking like its trying. Open and inviting, the décor is in raw wood and other natural materials giving it a real earthy feel. So, soooooo good for breakfast, particularly on the weekends when you can really kick back, enjoy the fully cooked brekky with bacon and eggs, toast, tomato, mushrooms and baked beans. And this may be a big call, but you won’t get better coffee down Acland… I know, a big statement right?! The staff here are laid back and casual and enjoy having a chat with customers, but when it comes to service and getting your drinks and meals they don’t stuff around. I love Fringe for breakfast on the weekends, sitting down the back of the café, taking my time and reading the paper as I watch Acland street come to life with the culture, vitality and people it’s renowned and loved for. Also great for drinks before a big night out. Really gets you in the mood.

Fringe is an open, airy and relaxing café, its big windows and corner position allow it to let it plenty of sunshine perfect for a Sunday morning, luckily they do serve an all day breakfast. Menu items like poached eggs and hasbrowns, french toast, blueberry pancakes and basil pesto scramble there is lots of filling breaky options to choose from especially if you are in need of a quick fix hangover cure! Fringe is also licensed so you can enjoy the little café at night when it transforms into a chilled out wine bar. They have a good selection of wine by the glass available as well as some local Aussie beers. I have found the service at Fringe to be friendly and efficient, the coffee is good, the prices are affordable and servings are decent.
