Stopped in for a coffee yesterday on my way to work and was surprised how affordable it was then how delicious it tasted. It was so good I decided to get another one at lunch and the staff remembered what I got which was a pleasant surprise considering how busy they were. I got a ham sandwich and it was brilliant and competitively priced for the area. Stopped in this morning and again remembered me, tried a chicken sandwich today and am just as impressed. I can see this being a regular stop for me and the staff couldn’t be friendlier! :-)

Visiting Brisvegas for the AMAZING Radiohead tour, I was in need of a great coffee place. Luckily for me Unilocal showed me the way to Nest which was conveniently a 5 minute walk from our accomodation! Very cool little spot with delicious coffee. Please note however it is only opened Monday to Friday. Coffee is very good, though being A Perthie Elixer is still number one in my books !!

A fellow Unilocaler told me, «Nest Espresso is the best coffee in Brisbane.» That was all I needed to make sure I ventured up the hill to the top of Spring Hill to try the Paul Basset blend served by Nest Espresso. Best in Brisbane might be too bold of a claim but keeping in mind coffee is a personal preference. This is up there in the top ten but it isn’t my best of Brisbane’s coffee. The crowd is majority business types grabbing a morning coffee-fix, reading The Australia or Financial Review and the atmosphere is suitably matched. A great take-away spot rather than sit in, me thinks!

Nest is my go to for the best coffee, ever, of all time. These peeps know what they’re doing, their coffee is AMAZING. I also highly recommend the fruit toast, there is none of that dried up, way too spiced, supermarket style toast here. It’s all plump fruit and hidden surprises like delicious walnuts. I had been eating this for breakfast pretty much every day for the past 5 weeks and I have to admit that my pants are getting a little tight most likely due to the amount of butter that the kitchen slathers on there… suggest if you like fitting into your pants to ask for maybe LESS butter but what can I say, I love the taste. They also do other breakfast goodies like CROQUEMADAME which I think needs to be ordered in a french accent for authenticity. This is high on my list of things to eat if I’m ever not running late for work which doesn’t seem all that likely. Lunch time is also covered, the burgers are pretty damn tasty and come served with potato crisps, which makes me feel like I’m in america or something — how multicultural is this place? I love the spicy burger(burger number two) which comes with jalapenos and some spicy sauce which I think may actually be this fab chipotle mayo that I found at Pennisi one time, it’s all creamy and smokey and spicy — basically awesome. There is a small selection of muffins and slicey-cake things if you’re into that sort of thing but they haven’t been delicious looking enough to entice me, but I’m a hard cake task-master. I say definitely come here for the coffee if you’re in Spring Hill(or if you’re extremely fit and want to walk up from the city because that hill is seriously HORRIBLE to walk up), grab some toast if it’s brekky time, or get into a burger if you’re around at lunch.

I’d heard about Nest Espresso from a friend who works nearby and raves about the great consistent coffee, so I was keen to check this little nook out for myself. It was a little silly of me to head in at 9.15am on a weekday, aka Coffee O’Clock, because there was no way I was going to get a seat. I settled for a takeaway instead and watched as swarms of people came in to get their morning fix. Wow! Nest is certainly not lacking in popularity. The café has a great feel to it and the staff seem lovely. I noticed a menu on the wall as well with super reasonable breakfast options, and my personal favourite, Croque Madame, made an appearance. Will have to pop in another time to sample their food! There were two grinders of the go, one with a single origin Ethiopian bean and the other with Paul Bassett’s sweet dessert style espresso blend. I’d not tried Paul Bassett’s award winning coffee before so was excited to give it a try. Well let me tell you that after the first sip of my coffee, I completely understood why this place was full to the brim of people. Excellent blend, excellent balanced flavours and perfectly steamed milk. Nest, you’ve won me over and I will definitely see you again soon.

Wowza. If you’re a coffee snob, or are just in dire need of one damn fine hit of caffeine, then I highly recommend checking out Nest Espresso. Perched at the top of Edward Street in Spring Hill, it’s well worth the uphill hike from the city to venture to. There’s one communal long wooden table outside the café, dotted with metal stools, sugar bowls and well-read newspapers. It is here you will find the city folk fuelling up for the day, some with some pretty darn tasty looking slow poached eggs on toasted brioche. Having said that, the breakfast menu, scrawled on a massive blackboard inside, is extensive, and flows into the equally long-winded lunch menu. But onto the coffee. I have to say(and this is a BIG call), that they serve up one of the tastiest coffees I’ve had in Brisbane, in a long, long time. The blend is called the«sweet dessert style» by Paul Bassett, and it is just that — it has a rich, smooth flavour, with this wonderful sweet aftertaste that lingers on the tastebuds for a long while after. If the food is as sumptuous as the coffee, I’ll definitely be back for breakfast.
