On the positive side: delicious hot chocolate! On the negative side: drinks were kind of pricey, it was crowded and our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive on a regular(I.e not Father’s Day) Sunday afternoon.

The place looked nice from outside, and walking in it certainly looked the look, with a clean white trim matched with warm wood and brown tones invoking a black and white chocolate like contrast. Perfect for a nice cuppa just before the movie! Or so I thought. But ultimately let down by a lack of heating on a cold Melbourne evening and tired, almost disinterested service. Tea was plonked down in front of me although presented as well as the surroundings. Not a nice lead either, so overall very disappointing!

This is my fav place to have a sneaky iced mocha prior to a movie, or on a lazy afternoon. Seriously, the iced mocha is amazing, and I don’t even drink coffee. Lindt’s chocolate in any form is just the best there is. Another desert to try is the dark chocolate ice-cream with strawberries. Just. Do. It. I’m really unsure about the state of the place though. For one, it’s quite tiny, and each time I have been there we have waited to get a seat for 5 – 10 minutes. Not really what you want when you’re heading to a movie in half an hour. Also, last time I went there was a leak in the roof and half the café was cornered off, making the seating arrangements even tighter. I feel like it could be quite a nice looking place, but it’s just a bit run down.

I love chocolate. So naturally, when the Lindt café opened on Chapel Street, I was there in a flash. After all, to a chocolate lover, a new café that specialises in everything chocolate has got to be a match made in heaven. My first reaction as I walked through the doors was one of awe and before I could even order, I could imagine the sweet experience in my head. It was obvious — I was on a chocolate high! And when I looked around at the other happy faces, I took comfort that I wasn’t the only one. Deciding to order a few cakes to share among us(there were 3 of us), we were a little surprised at the price($ 13/slice) but decided we would try anyway. $ 39 later, the Chocolate Hazelnut Gâteau emerged as winner with it’s smooth layers of freshly roasted nuts and vanilla bean cake soaked in hazelnut and chocolate and finished in a dark chocolate ganache. The verdict: A little pricey but we’ll probably be back!
