Hilton Melbourne South Wharf

Hilton around the world has been a consistently positive experience for me on my business trips. The same can be said for this location as well! We stayed on the 5^th floor and had a great view of the skyline facing the CBD. The suite looked like it was recently renovated with a giant bathroom with both a tub and separate tiled shower stall. Great closet space and drawers for storing your clothes and shoes. The bed was comfy with a choice of pillows in various sizes and firmness to please everyone. They have a nice large fitness centre on the 4^th floor that give you a view of he city (also houses an aboriginal art gallery).
We have Hilton Honours points card so not sure if that’s why we got a complementary box of macaroons and Perrier when we arrived as well as a nice fruit bowl a week into our stay.
Great service by the concierge and bell boy getting us taxis and what not. Walking distance to a lot of sights and the tram. Would definitely stay here again!

Disappointed to see the bar has turned into a restaurant — there is still a small bar however the ambience and style has all gone.
Service on drinks some what disappointing. Only got to have one drink before we had to go. Even when they cleared the glasses they didn’t bother asking if we wanted another.

We checked in late Friday night there was a private function happening in the ground floor restaurant which was very loud in the foyer, but luckily not in our room. The room is quite large. The room is well equipped with a comfortable bed.
We checked out the executive lounge which is very large with plenty of seating unfortunately we weren’t around when drinks and hor’devres.

5 star hotel… Feels like 4 star. Overall seems to be struggling with its staff and overall hotel-​ness. It is clean however, just not anything like a 5-​star. How did they get that extra star?
The breakfast is good however as you can juice your own stuff!

I stayed here mid week on a quick business trip in June 2014.
This hotel was SUPERB. an easy 5*+ rating. I felt like royalty staying here. Because I have gold hilton status, I stayed on an executive level and had access to the executive lounge. The coffee was great, breakfast was incredible, and there’s even a juicer to create your own juice concoction.
My room was phenomenal. I felt like a queen. I had a view overlooking the casino, where I could see the fire being spit out every so often. The shades went up and down with a click of a button. The bed was comfortable, the bath was relaxing, and the shower was breathtaking.
I would have no hesitation coming back here.

Convenient to the Melbourne convention center (it is connected on the second floor). Very new modern hotel with nice rooms. They have an ok gym and a great coffee/​breakfast café downstairs. Business center has free internet access and a printer but that’s about it. All of the staff was very nice and helpful.

Stayed for just the night while I attended and presented at a conference in south wharf. Obviously there for the location, but such a great hotel.
Staff were helpful with everyrhing I needed, King room was fantastic (should’ve taken the deluxe upgrade). It was nice to have a bath (in-​room) after travelling across country.
I didnt use the gym or some of the other facilities, but a 5min walk from the Crown Casino meant there were plenty of food options nearby too. The convention centre also has a coles.

Great hotel, especially after having to stay at the Rydges the night before. I did not have much interaction with the staff but the hotel was modern and very comfortable. The beds were amazing and had a fantastic night sleep. Lovely bathrooms with walk in shower and separate bath tub and floor to ceiling windows with great views across the city.
The Executive lounge was very large and offered a fantastic canapé spread in the evening accompanied by a superb live jazz singer giving the place a cool evening vibe. Perfect place for a glass of bubbles and quick bite before heading the theatre. The spread in the morning was equally as impressive.
Would certainly stay here again.

I was in Melbourne for 3 days on business and the Hilton South Wharf was a comfortable place to use as a base.
Location: a bit out of the way in terms of touristy sights and the CBD, but there is direct, convenient access to the walking/​running/​biking path along the river to get into the heart of town within 15 – 20 minutes walk. The hotel is connected to the convention center, so I can imagine the area can get crowded if a convention is on, however things were pleasantly quiet during my stay. Perhaps a benefit from being slightly out of the center areas. Nice bars and restaurants connected to the building along the river.
Quality: The staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful at all times. They truly seemed to care about their guests. Great example: conscious of the heat wave outside (45 degrees for 4 straight days!), the staff created a great ice water and sunscreen station. The concierge was quite informative. The beds were plush and comfortable. Room was large, and featured a full panoramic view of the Yarra and downtown. Bathroom also large, featuring a soaking tub and spacious walk-​in shower. Only con is that the construction quality and fixtures were done a bit on the cheap. The towel holders were loose, bathroom slider door was crooked and didn’t slide properly, and desk had a wobble.
Amenities: Gym was adequate. Surprised that there was no pool. Lobby café featured nice coffees, teas, and small morning bites. The wine bar was also a great place to finish off a night. Didn’t use room service, but menu options looked decent, but with the expected inflated pricing. In-​room wifi came at a price (Free if you have higher HHonors status), but it was fast.
Overall, I would come back if the price is right.

A clean, modern, posh hotel with beautiful views of Melbourne and the Yarra River. Plush, soft bedding, delicious complimentary tea and coffee and extremely friendly and helpful staff.

For any special event in Melbourne I always try to stay at the Hilton South Wharf. The views are fantastic, rooms are very quiet and the bathrooms are spot on. Beds are super comfortable and in the morning you just don’t want to get up.
The restaurants attached below offer all styles, but you must try the croquets. Even though they are not on the room service menu, you can still get them!

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel while we were on vacation in Melbourne. We absolutely loved the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is quite new, modern, and upscale. It’s gorgeous and the staff is really great. I went to the concierge every day to ask questions and they were always very nice and helpful.
We stayed in a king bed room, which had a nice view of the Yarra and the city below. The room was very quiet, spacious, and had plenty of closest space for the both of us. There is free coffee and tea in your room. The only thing I didn’t love was the TV — not a lot of great channels and for some weird reason, they don’t tell you what channel you are on, so if you find something you like, you have to go through all the channels and find it again if you go to another channel. Not a huge deal but it really was the only bummer I can say about the room. Oh and the price of wifi. It was crazy expensive.
The attached café is also a great place to stop for breakfast. Great egg sandwiches and coffee.
Parking is $ 20 self parking across the street.
The hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport without traffic (about $ 45). I found the location perfect for our stay in the city. It’s about 15 minutes walking from the CBD where we always went for our meals and to site see. It’s nice to be that close but not in the city, especially because we came at the Melbourne Cup and the city was packed. If you dont mind a short walk, this hotel is ideal for tourist and business travelers.

Very nice. Upscale and peaceful. Very handy, as I was here for the convention centre that’s attached (at level 1). My king room was well laid-​out and felt luxurious (lots of pillows, nice bed, and a nice bathroom done to a very high standard). It lives up to the Hilton name.
But no free wifi. Boo. Australian hotels are admittedly bad for this.
I had a dinner and a lunch in the restaurant downstairs and both were very good from food quality, amount, and service points of view.
It helps that I wasn’t paying.

My stay at the Hitlon South Wharf was for three nights. I was working a conference at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre. The hotel was ideally located for early morning starts and late night finishes.
I stayed in an Executive King room (room 1310) on the thirteenth floor. The room was spacious and comfortable with a fabulous view down the Yarra River towards the city.
The bed was very comfortable and there is a pillow ‘menu’ to suit a variety of preferences. I found the standard pillows that where there on check-​in were fine.
The bathroom is a good size with a separate bath and shower. The shower had good pressure and was adjustable for height (a blessing for someone who like me who is tall and has only too often had to bend down to wash my hair in hotels with ‘short’ showers). The bath is nice, long and deep. Ideal for a relaxing soak.
The Executive rooms have access to the Executive Lounge which includes breakfast, computer, printer and internet access, and a variety of other services. Unfortunately my conference schedule meant that I didn’t have time to take advantage of the lounge; however reports from delegates were positive.
The room had both wired and wireless internet access although the $ 29/​day price tag is a bit steep in my opinion.
The room service menu has a good variety to choose from and the meals are tasty. The prices are on the more expensive side, but then this is the norm for hotel room service these days.
The tv has both free-​to-​air and Foxtel (pay TV) channels as well as a good selection of in-​house movies (approx $ 15/​movie).
Sometimes it’s the little touches that can make a stay particularly pleasant. The evening turn down service included a little aroma therapy package on the bed which smelled lovely and was a nice touch. The bathroom toiletries were also very nice.
My only note for travellers from out of town it that, although located conveniently for conventions and trade shows in the nearby conference and exhibition centres, as well as close to the Crowne Casino complex, the Hilton South Wharf is little bit of a hike from the CBD (25 minute walk).
In terms of location:
Pros — good, direct run from the airport, convenient for access to the convention and exhibition centres, close to Crowne Casino, a variety of shopping in the immediate area (including a DFO), a pleasant riverside outlook
Cons — a good 25 minute walk from the CBD, a bit out of the action
Overall though, I had a pleasant stay at the Hilton South Wharf and would recommend booking if the location suits your needs. I would stay again.
