Daily Grind

Stylish little place, with a calming atmosphere and a great daily soup. Nothing too fancy and it’s reasonably priced.

I’ve added a star as over the years the owners and staff here have accommodated the influx of Saturday morning runners who pile in here for the «compulsory» post run coffee or feed. Albert Park parkrun crew hit the place at 9am so if you fancy a quiet breakfast at that time on Saturday you’re in for a shock. Vegans are catered for (and gluten free), simply ask them & they’ll deliver, for example they’ll do the avocado on sourdough without butter and fetta and give you a splash of extra virgin olive oil. They do a mean hummus on toast with tomato. Split bills? No problem and when we are 25 different orders that’s pretty amazing. They’ve also figured out the rush periods so delays are now at a minimum. Well done crew, we missed you that three weeks you were closed, a well earned holiday.

I have been to the Daily Grind for the past two Saturday’s following our parkrun around Albert Park lake. Each time I have been very impressed by this unassuming little café on Clarendon St.
The service is professional, prompt and friendly. The staff are also well presented.
Since we are thirsty post run it is only on the smoothies and juices that I can comment on but I did spy some fabulous looking chocolate crackles on the counter that I hope to try someday.
There is a selection of 4 juices and 2 smoothies (soy available) to try. I first went with the berry smoothie which was like a really healthy meal in a glass. Just the thing for post race recovery.
Yesterday I went for the Flu Fighter juice which was equally refreshing and healthy with carrot, beetroot and celery. My post race partners were equally impressed. Same goes for the coffee.
There is ample seating both inside and outside on the footpath. The outdoor seating is protected from the elements by umbrellas.
Water is self service.
Value is great with juices ranging from 4.50 — 6.50 depending on size.
I am looking forward to our next visit.
