The coffee and food were excellent. The guy who served us was relentless in up selling and we felt pressured, which spoilt the atmosphere and made us leave quickly. The watermelon water was a nice touch. Food 4.5 stars. Service 2 stars.

Haven’t been here for a while and boy it’s great. Coffee is consistently great, I always go for the Magic(¾ latte double shot). Bircher Muesli served in a jar and lots of it! Nice amount of macadamia nuts too. It’s a great stop on the way to work!

Magic on Ferrars is one of those local neighbourhood gems, tucked away from the main drag of South Melbourne on Ferrars St. Situated on a street corner this relatively unassuming café with just a sign in the window and a blackboard outside can be easily missed. Seating is modest with maybe half a dozen tables against a wall inside and a few more outside. The menu consists of the usual Melbourne breakfast and brunch affairs with a focus on organic and locally sourced ingredients. There is also a selection of baguettes and a burger of the day, today’s was a chicken breast with brie, rocket, tomato and Spanish onion on a brioche bun. For some reason I get very excited over melted brie on burgers, something I believe is quite underused, so Magic definitely ticked the right boxes. Table water was served in a cute metal mug that you’d find back in the date at school camps. Coffee options were a bit of a surprise from a small neighbourhood café with range of espresso, filter and cold drip options from St Ali. The staff are a bit quirky and fun, definitely pop in if you’re in the area and want to escape for a bit.
