If you have a signature item you best be doing it well. Sourdough needs to up its game. First, I’ve really never had a proper coffee here: It always tastes bitter. Service usually ranges from disinterested to rude(expect sullen stares when requesting water, long waits, and no-body manning the cash register for several minutes while a line forms.) I’ve always enjoyed their sandwiches so have popped in here from time to time, but no longer. Today I walked in and found the cash register unmanned(this has happened before). I stood there awkwardly with another lady for a minute or so and finally asked the mute barista if I could just leave 4 dollars on the counter for my bread. She nodded and I plunked down my money. No server or salesperson was to be seen and the other lady was still looking around searchingly for some assistance as I left. Barista didn’t say a word to us: Not even an apology or explanation for the fact that no one was around! Had they all gone for a smoke? Who knows? All I know is that I got home and realised my baguette was burnt on the bottom and pretty much inedible. Even the great sammies can’t make up for the consistently mediocre service and not so nice baked items.

Came here after a recommendation from a friend. Was looking forward to trying the cronut and other pastries, unfortunately the cronut was super over done and very oily, and the croissant could have been done a little longer. The coffee was very bitter, and the hot chocolate and chai was very very milky with no flavour. Wouldn’t come back here in a hurry.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times and had numerous coffees. Never disappointed. Food is great. Sandwiches are great. Pastries are great. Coffee is spot on. Top little local coffee shop/café setup. It’s pretty local for me so I know I’ll be eating here again.

I’ve not eaten here, but that doesn’t matter, because they sell the best darn bread going around, seriously! Their house made Casalinga is spectacular and the multigrain is a favourite of mine too. They only cut it to one size, which is something in-between sandwich and toast. And you should see the breads and pastries in the window display. It doesn’t get any more carb food porn than that! They also serve breakfast and lunch, and the menu reads well. It’s a little bit cramped if you choose to dine in, but it’s hard to resist when you know your eggs will be served on that delicious bread. I’m lovin’ this bakery — Big time!

Amazing bread, not amazing service. I recommend the bread, but next time we will by a loaf and eat at home.

Sourdough Kitchen is at it’s heart, a bakery. Yes, it has tables and chairs. Yes, you can sit there and read your paper, order beverages and eat their wares. It’s even child-friendly. That said, it’s worthwhile remembering that Sourdough Kitchen is not a café. Coffee and such things are not their core product. With this in mind, the café experience isn’t as great as it could be. Their bready delights however, are luscious. My husband is a huge fan of their buttery croissants filled with ham and cheese. When I’m prepared to take the gluten risk, their spelt loaves are doughy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I deeply suspect they fill their jam with crack too. It’s the only explanation I can think of for it just being so incredibly tasty and moreish. If you’re prepared to play coffee roulette, by all means give it a go — some days it’s great, some days it’s… well, bloody awful. Whatever you do though, don’t leave without something freshly baked. In most cases the bread is still warm from the oven for that warm goodness feeling.
