I decided it was time to get myself down to the newest local markets this morning. Feed Box Market is located on the Esplanade area of Scarborough Beach in front of Peter’s By The Sea on the grassed area. They commenced on 22 November 2014 running on Saturdays through summer from 8.00am-1.00pm. By all accounts from what I have heard there are more and more vendors joining each week! Today I ventured down for breakfast in search of Shak Shura one of my favorite street food style vendors in Perth! This morning I grabbed the Shak Shura breakfast of two baked eggs for $ 11. There are a number of combinations you can get and these guys really know how to do delicious Moroccan food! There are a good selection of breakfast vendors; Maggie’s Treats 2 Eat cooking up omelettes and bacon and egg rolls, Café Oranj and their delicious looking breakfast picklets, as well as coffee from Higher Grounds(this coffee is seriously good) and juices and smoothies from Juiceface. The food village set up is great, positioned in the middle of the markets with deckchair seating, community tables and plenty of cover from the sun! There is also plenty of options if you just want to chill out and get some sun. The children’s play area has been well thought out and is sure to keep the kids occupied. Currently their are two fresh fruit vendors Askrigg Orchard and Supa Fresh I don’t want to let the secret out but the stone fruit(apricots and peaches) I bought from Askrigg Orchard this morning was amazing quality and so much cheaper then the shops! They have a great selection of in season fruit and encourage you to try before you buy with samples on offer! From Supa Fresh I bought the best looking strawberries I have seen all summer, I hope they taste as good as they look. Supa Fresh sell a good selection of bagged lettuce(rocket, spinach, kale, etc) and other salad items as well as some fresh fruits. I will definitely be heading back next week to stock up on some more fresh fruit and veg from these two. Honey I’m Home selling fresh WA Honey, Honey Cake, Sally’s Lane Cider, Nom Nom’s Cupcakes and Bön Pussy all make an appearance in the fresh produce stakes. To compliment the food and fresh produce stores there are a number of interesting vendors to look through and find something cool and unique to take home with you. There are lots of different things to buy in the lead up to Christmas if you are looking for a different sort of gift. I did also notice a Hula Hoop Class at one end of the markets in progress run by Happy Health Hoops — you can join a class at a trial price — they also run on Sunday mornings at Scarborough. Cooking demonstrations were scheduled for times during the morning which you can join for a small fee of $ 10.00. Scarborough has been screaming out for markets for years, we have an awesome location for such an event and I am so happy that the council is finally allowing things like this to go ahead. Do yourself a favor and check out this great new market on the Scarborough beachfront if you find yourself with nothing to do on a Saturday morning or plan a Saturday morning in Scarborough these markets have both breakfast and lunch covered!
