Madman Entertainment

Yes it is geek time again. You have been warned.
With that said the topic of the geek discussion today is animé. I have a weakness for comic books, manga and animé (especially Studio Ghibli stuff). So having that said I hit every resource I could find to find more Studio Ghibli films that never made over to the states. Turns out there are quite a few films that Studio Ghibli put out that never got released on DVD here in the states. So after looking around a bit and doing some research I found that many of these films that were not released here were released in Australia. Thus shopping in the Land from Down Under was underway. Most of these Ghibli films were released by Madman Entertainment, located in Collingwood, Victoria. I fell in love with the company that released these films in a most immediate manner. While most of the Ghibli stuff I picked up here was not as popular as say like Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away it was gratifiying none the less. Many of these films were early versions to more famous Ghibli films yet had a story all to itself. I also found out that Madman Entertainment also released Japanese films as well like the hilarious Big Man Japan, released on DVD over there long before it made its stateside debut.
I also found out that Madman picked up animé films from the American animé company Manga Entertainment after they stopped releasing animé films that were dubbed or had subtitles for English speaking viewers so that they could reissue them.
I have the highest regards for Madman and I simply love the thrill of the hunt in obtaining films that they release. Of course Australia is in a different region code than the states so you best get a region free DVD player if you want to watch these films. You can probably stream many of these films off of the internet but that would totally undermine the thrilling hunt. Yeah, I am old school like that.
