Lovely brunch /lunch /aperitives place Don’t waste your time on the Australian items on the menu — jump directly on their Italian items(all quite unique — not the usual Italian stuff) and ENJOY!

Not at all impressed by this restaurant. Went in for breakfast on a Friday morning(not busy when we were there), had to flag down the waitress to order a coffee, we weren’t given menus so had to ask for them when our coffee eventually arrived. No one approached us to take our order so again had to get the attention of the waitress. Our food finally came after about 35 minutes(and we didn’t order complicated meals, just your standard breakfast) I had to get up and help my self to cutlery as we weren’t given any and the food was cold! So infuriating. When I went to pay at the counter(after being told it was cash only and paying $ 2.50 to use their ATM — they really should tell people that when they sit down or at least have it written on the menu) the gentlemen asked how everything was and I told him honestly that although the food was tasty, it was cold and took far too long to get to us. He didn’t really seem to care at all, didn’t offer an apology or a discount(at least a token ‘sorry about that let me make the coffee’s on us for the trouble’). Will never go back. It’s a real shame as the place itself is beautiful.

I’m not sure how to characterize Mazzitelli. I want to say Italian. It’s got the opulent, laid-back marble feel that wouldn’t be out of place in Rome. On the other hand, it feels somewhat American. Particularly the way it transitions from a bustling café during the day to casual restaurant at night. I’ve always had terrific service here. Including one time I visited with a group and one was extremely late due to a bout of jetlag. Despite the place being packed, the staff weren’t bothered at all. They were extremely attentive and kept our drinks topped up till our final party arrived. The menu is scrawled in black on the white tile wall on the back. Perhaps a cliché, but it creates a nice dramatic effect. The interior is quite good in general. With all that marble and ornate features it would be easy to be tacky, but they pull it off. Inside is dark, a little moody, but still cozy. Mazzitelli nail the Italian classics really well. They don’t mix it up(fortunately in my view). This is traditional fare. The Osso Bucco and daily pasta dishes are great. Well pretty much everything is. If I did have one complain it’s that the dishes tend to be quite rich, a little oily. Not only that, but Mazzitelli has a quite expansive Italian delicatessen. I’ve never really dived in, but judging from their antipasto platter it’s high quality. As others have mentioned, they have an «Aperitivo» from 5 to 7 at night and you can get this platter for $ 10, along with a $ 5 Peroni, Prosecco or House Wine. Bargain. Perhaps this is uniquely Italian-Australian. Definite stop if I’ve had a late one on Bridge Road.

Impromptu dinner last night didn’t disappoint. Winter warming and tasty. We came in for an after work drink but were swayed over by the menu and stayed for dinner. Attentive staff.

Gorgeous café smack bang in the middle of Bridge Rd — can you go wrong? Apparently not. I’ve not been to Rome, but I’m convinced that if I went there, it’d feel something like Mazzitelli. The feel and aroma of the place is magical; I truly felt like I’d been transported somewhere other than Melbourne after walking in. With $ 10 antipasti and REAL Peroni(none of that CUB rubbish) you could do worse than swinging by here after – or before – a hard day’s work. I’m yet to stay for dinner, but the menu will have me jumping as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Beautiful Italian themed café… make sure you try the antipasto, for $ 10 you can gorge on sumptuous ham, cheese, pickles, salami and a few other delights!

Lovely decore, friendly staff and $ 10 antipasta for two people to share. The food is authentic and flavoursome, the atmosphere is very latino. These guys put on a great evening with live piano accordion performance and lively jazz music in the background that made for a wonderful ambiance. Would visit again to try out their dinner menu for sure.

Café BYDAY — Apéritif INTHEAFTERNOON — Restaurant ATNIGHT What an awesome café to stop over at on Bridge Road, especially if you have just blown your weekly wage on new clothes. Mazitelli is a cheaper option, $ 2 for coffee… Yes $ 2 freaking dollars… If you are around on a Tuesday — Saturday try out the Aperitivo before a nice dinner. I am hoping to come back here for dinner, unfortunately I cheated on my last visit with Aperitivo at Mazzitelli followed up by Dinner at Station Hotel in Footscray.
