Simmer at Souths

FINALLY!
For us die-​hard South Sydney Rabbitohs fans, our ancestral club house a re-​opened and is looking rather sch-​mick (if I don’t say so myself).
Naturally, with the opening comes a restaurant, the space is called Simmer at Souths.
I was not sure what to expect as the head chef is actually published, although I had never heard of her and I have a might fine collection of cook books. We went on a Monday or Tuesday night for the purpose of attending the club’s weekly meat raffle. Naturally, one thing lead to another (thanks to winning three meat trays) we got a bit tipsy and decided to eat — we certainly were not disappointed, but not wowed either.
I think the club itself is going to have to feel it’s way to see how it fits into the old surrounding as to which way it is going to cater for the patronage. This menu (March 2012) was pretty safe and tasty, but Redfern is changing (if the City of Sydney has it’s way) and they will need to be a little more competitive with the type of menu to compete with the other eating house in the surrounds.
We will be back, but we will be looking for improvement — especially from the bar staff, but they have nothing to do with the restaurant.
