Had a chai and chilli eggs for breakfast and everything was delicious! The only disappointment was they were out of kombucha. Friendly and quick service.

Depending on what you’re after this place could make or break your morning… Their coffee is good, the place is open and airy, the food is delicious… all in all, it takes care of all your brunch needs, whether that’s to satisfy your hunger, impress your brunch date with your modish-café-taste or to update your social media associates with your ‘food porn’ However! Ruby’s very hipster, painfully so… gorgeous murals, young cool crew, music from the vinyl turntable, servingware and food plating that’s made for Instagram and plethora of trendy hipster food. If all of the above appeals to you then get yourself down there asap, but if you’re having an off day and subsequently low tolerance for the usual Sydney brunch wankery and/or your breakfast date insisting you let her take a 10 photos first, you’ve been warned!

Date: Sat 19th Dec 2015 I went here based on a recommendation from a friend expecting the usual eggs /toast breakfast. However, this place is far from average. Firstly, it was a hot, sunny Saturday and although it was very busy, we got 2 seats in 10 minutes. There were plenty of staff and they were very freindly. The atmosphere was really good and the doors were all open which was great as it was hot and sunny. The outside seating was in the shade, so no need to worry about burning up! I ordered a long black to start and it was really good, just what I needed to wake me up. Then when I looked at the menu, a Malaysian looking dish looked very good. So I ordered the«Coconut Chilli Eggs». The taste of this dish was amazing, great flavours(plus tangy lime) as well as the roti being of great quality and freshness. I’d go back to eat this dish alone. I highly recommend this place.

Ruby’s is great. It’s also in a suburb. I don’t go to suburbs, but I did for good ol’ Ruby. We were a group of 9, so getting a table took about an hour(YES!), otherwise a standard wait for a table was 30 minutes. Ruby’s had put out some heaters outside for its queue, and the waitresses were incredible in making sure everyone was seated and served quickly(service 12⁄10). The food came, and I was like… yeah…this is pretty damn good. Our group ordered a bunch of stuff like the Croque Monsieur, Rainbow scrambled eggs(because of the chard), quinoa salad(comes with caramel sauce!!), etc etc. It was all very good, nay… excellent. Ruby’s is a curious place, with almost like a Stepford wife kind of vibe. Everywhere I looked, girls were 10feet tall, with perfect beach tans, blond ponytails, nautical striped tees, jeans, and loafers. Everywhere. I looked down at myself and realized I had just committed a suburban fashion faux pas — I had showed up in a leather jacket, and was still holding on to last night’s pink Prada clutch. As the afternoon progressed, I became more and more self conscious as the monochromatic audience at the Diner blended in with each other. I had missed the memo for the dress code. I left my group in a hurry, leaving the restaurant only to be confronted by SUVs pulling up or trying to find parking nearby… but I had other arrangements. I slipped into an Über car and was zipped away into the city, far far away. Maybe I’ll be back, but not very soon. First, I’ll need the right clothes.

I don’t come here often, but when I so, I always get the croque monsieur, it is the most Delicious thing I have ever tasted, the bread has a slight Yang, the cheese is high quality and h amazing, and the Ham is also great. The service is slay great, with friendly staff and always free smiles, and The coffee and tea is marvelous.

$ 12 for eggs and toast?! Wi-fi connection so slow I couldn’t even log on and waited 10 mins for overpriced coffee. The food is good quality but price and another half hour wait cannot be justified!

A most unpleasant experience. Maybe the waiters have become smug. Our group of six(all adults including grandparents, a parent and three professionals) put two tables together at the front. After 5 minutes, one of the waitresses came out to tell us that it was policy not to join tables, and could we separate them. We found this to be a bazaar request as we were all one group We explained we were only going to be there for a short while and asked to speak to the manager. Someone who appeared to be the manager said that it’s policy and couldn’t be changed. Another 5 minutes later, the real manager came out and said we cannot join tables because we did not ask nicely. We couldn’t believe the rudeness of the three people we spoke to and all got up and left.

Great if you like your coffee hipster… Ruby’s is one of my regular haunts for a coffee during the week. After a brief rotation of weak coffee baristas, they’ve sorted out a good crew and the coffee is good, albeit expensive. Almond milk latte anyone? I love the atmosphere in there. The whole diner fills with sunlight on a beautiful day. The blue walls feature a kraken amongst the seaside motif. There’s a turntable with vinyl records behind the main counter — is it actually plugged in? I have no idea. The food is pretty great, the quinoa bircher often sells out. While they seem to be selling an increasing number of paleo snacks to please the East(Paleo diets aren’t good for your gut PS), they also sell jars of my favourite peanut butter which helps me forgive some of the superfood wankery.

A 2 min drive(10−15min walk) from Bondi Junction(and a 2 km walk to Bronte beach) definitely worth visiting. You can hang here for hours; it’s a pretty young, hipster scene. The coffee is great and the food is phenomenal. Best Part: The food tastes as amazing as it looks. There’s a good combination of healthy and naughty food. So much flavour — most dishes are on the healthier side but the taste has not been scarified in any way. I would recommend: The BLAT if you’re hung-over, the chicken salad if you want a filling, light and healthy lunch, the monkey magic smoothie(Vegan) banana, dates, chia seeds and almond milk, little bit of cinnamon, if you’re in the mood for liquid meal — very filling! Also, I had massive food envy when the coconut quinoa bircher with sliced mango, mint, pistachios and a pot of heavily caramelised coconut sugar syrup was served, the proud owner said it was fantastic! Love Bangers x

Reviews on another popular site imply that the service here is rude, but nothing could have been further from the truth. Our servers were very friendly … in that fuzzy sort of Sunday morning what did I smoke last night sort of way that they do around here way! In any case, we waited a few minutes for a table this Sunday morning — then ordered and was served our meals very promptly. Working through research for my forthcoming book«best French toasts in Sydney»(there is no such book — but it’s a great excuse) means I had to have the French toast! It was delicious, and may well be a contender for the best French toast. But more research needed. It was rich and tasty without being heavy. I feel like I can still walk out whilst being comfortably full. The scrambled eggs I am told we’re delicious — and despite being told when they arrived that there is «just too much and I won’t be able to finish it» the plate looked squeaky clean when I looked up later from my French toast. The coffee was nice and hot without being too hot, and the taste was solid. Not as intense as I was lead to believe by reviews — but still full of flavour. This is a long way for me to travel — but is consider coming back again. Well done, Ruby’s!

Good breakfast menu and nice service. It’s a little bit pricey, but tasty and the coffee is great.

This is one of my fave café’s within the eastern suburbs. Its menu is great, coffee always exceptional and the staff are lovely. Its a frequent post gym breakfast spot to meet friends, relax and have a healthy and satisfying bite to eat. I recommend — anything on the breakfast menu, there is a vast selection and depending if your in healthy mood or hung over you won’t be disappointed. Lunch menu is also fab. but I havent really explored that yet :)

Such a great place, and so good to have a café that DOESITSOWNBAKING! Excellent coffee, interesting menu and friendly staff. Plus an owner who’s always got his eye on what’s happening. And one more bonus — open all weekend!

Every time I walk past this café heading home, it’s always full of cyclists having a cuppa after their ride, parents with their kids, and fashionistas people watching. Luckily one day(during the week) there were enough spots to take a seat, I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It’s a smaller café with not too many tables, but there’s a lot of people ordering takeaway or some seated on the side street with their dogs. It has a nice community feel to it. The wall is decked out in traditional sailor style illustration which is pretty fun to look at if you’re facing the kitchen. They had a range of sandwiches at the counter that were appetising as well a few more choices on the lunch(from 11:30) menu, but I tried something from the all day breakfast section: the scrambled eggs, cured ocean trout and asparagus with sourdough toast. Oh man, it tasted so good! The scrambled eggs had shallots through it with a touch of lemon zest. The coffee is also a worthy mention here. On the menu they have a whole section about how they make their coffee. I’m not a coffee connoisseur, but they really do make great coffee. It’s on my top 5 list to go for coffee now.

Since day one the burger that owner Ed mastermindidly invented hasn’t changed apart from the option of caramelised pineapple. I think this is one of the best burgers in Sydney if not THEBEST. The owner Ed respects organic home grown tastes, and true to his philosophy of coupling great food with great service and great coffee, he made Rubys Diner. Fantastic choice mate! The aged cheddar cheese is melted on the burger on the grill, the burger itself is organic, hand made and generous in size, the beetroot is sweet and thinly grated, but not so to make the crisp Sonoma bread soggy, and the pineapple complements it perfectly. So when I ordered my Ristretto to go along with it, I was humbly surprised to see a double shot Ristretto for $ 2, much thicker with more natural coffee oils than I have ever seen. This was a thick layer on the spoon, and a slap in the face of bitter/sweetness to the tongue — just what the doctor ordered. Not for lighthearted coffee drinkers — this is the real deal. Underrated, and not nearly overstated enough — this is a secret which I know by writing this will give it away, so go quickly, get up of your couch, and grab this ‘should be illegal’ its so addictive, organic burger, and amazing coffee. 6⁄5 if there was a button for it!
