One of the established fishmongers. Wide range of produce and slightly lower in price from others. The aisle are a little narrower than others but again another great variety and when you a staff members attention they ‘help’ you. Worth a visit and a fine competitor on the block

Love Love this place. This place is different from other stores in the fish market as it embraces being a chaotic authentic seafood store. Unlike the other stores that double up as a eatery this store just sell raw items(and the occasional sauce etc). I find the fishy smell very therapeutic haha and the selection and quality of seafood is amazing. The standout items here are the Pacific Tasmanian Oysters and Salmon.

I always buy my seafood here and I keep coming back for the fresh seafood and friendly service. Today I bought sashimi salmon which was beautifully sliced. I knew it was fresh by the clean yet rich buttery flavour the moment I ate the first slice. I had a choice of Sydney rock oysters or Pacific Tasmanian oysters, so I indulged myself by choosing both. The Sydney rock oysters were medium in size and were rich and creamy whilst the Pacific Tasmanian oysters were large and plump with a slightly salty and sweeter taste. I’m drooling just thinking about those little suckers seasoned with salt and pepper, finished off with a squeeze of lemon. Tip: make sure you bring an esky.

I’m pretty sure the fish at every fishmonger in the market is going to be pretty comparable since they come off the same boats. You’ll find variations in selection based on shop specialty, season, or shelf space, but the core options are going to be essentially the same. Claudio’s was actually the last shop I visited in my quest for Balmain Bugs, and even though it isn’t necessarily the nicest at the market, they were the only shop that had them the day of my visit The thing I liked Claudio’s is it feels like a place you go to do some serious fish business. It’s not polished and spacious. Rather, it’s a little cramped, noisy, and things are moving fast around you. The girl who helped me was very friendly and answered my questions without the eyerolling or haughtiness one might expect from staff in a specialty shop. I expect every customer receives the same courteous and efficient treatment. I never felt like I was wasting anyone’s time, and everyone I dealt with graciously thanked me even though my purchased totaled less than $ 6. While you certainly need to take selection into consideration when you’re choosing a market, service also has to count for something, and I’m generally willing to pay a little more for quality customer care. In the case of Claudio’s, I felt appreciated as a customer and I’m pretty sure their prices are on par with every other in the market.

Claudio’s stands out as the most immediate fish shop at the Sydney fish markets. You’ll find it is slightly more chaotic than the swisher interior seafood suppliers who try and juggle the market with an eatery, this shop is purely about the raw materials! The whole shop is full of shouts, clunks and bangs as the air of industry pervades. It is split into about 5 or 6 counters to direct you around the specific produce but you might find your path barred by the odd fishy puddle, bucket of fish-heads or man menacingly wielding a cleaver(at some dead fish). The nice thing is that you’ll be looked after by just one shop assistant who helpfully goes from counter to counter for you making sure your order isn’t stuffed up. All of the seafood practically still has a pulse and is exhibited on trays of ice. There are some freezer products at a cheaper price but most people are more interested in the real deal. I was impressed with the Sashimi bar which offered trays of the gorgeous pink hunks of fish for just $ 15. I’d highly recommend this place for the no-frills fish-fanatic.
