The beauty of North Queensland is that, if you’re like me, you basically eat the barramundi at every dinner so it’s really easy to compare restaurants apples to apples(err…barra to barra), and Bucci was my favorite of my trip. Our group also got one of the pasta dishes which was also delicious, even though we were as far from Italy as pretty much anywhere on Earth. Bucci was a little pricey, but it was a really nice patio right on one of the main streets in Port Douglas, so provided some nice people watching and the service was great. Would definitely come back here my first night back. Food: 4⁄5 Value: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 5⁄5

The food was great, but the service was slow. We had to ask for a server a number of times. You have to have a reservation for dinner. We loved the nutella cannoli dessert! It was fantastic.

I really enjoyed the food here. Friendly service from all the wait staff. Food delivery(timing) was great(even though the restaurant was full.) I had the Lasagne(absolutely loved this, different to the norm. — with pulled beef) and we had crab linguini, and also a pork pasta dish which was divine. Desert was equally great — chocolate cannoli, and a chocolate fudge cake thingy, and a white chocolate mouse dish. We had a great night. Highly recommended.

We booked Bucci for New Years Eve and there was a set menu. We were greeted with prosecco and given a table for two a little bit away from the main thoroughfare, which was good. The printed menu wasn’t super descriptive, so we weren’t sure what was being served as appetiser. They must have put on extra staff for NYE that aren’t regulars, as when we enquired with the waitress what was on the antipasto board, she replied in heavily accented Euro-English…“ah, just try it…” ok… We later managed to discern what the dishes were from a passing waiter and they were a nice selection, including some rarer items that aren’t commonly seen, such as a cod mousse. The next course was a lobster ravioli in a bianco sauce, which was beautiful and featured a whole bbq’d prawn and seared scallop, which had a stunning flavour. The main course was beautifully cooked lamb — light blush pink in the middle and soft as butter, which is how lamb should be. Complimented by pea purée, marsala jus and creamy mashed potato, it was a standout. By far the highlight of the night was the dessert. Chocolate Nemesis, a la The River Café, with a white chocolate zabaglione, a quenelle of vanilla bean tinted cream and almond biscotti. The chocolate nemesis cake was rich but light and was a beautiful way to end the meal. I couldn’t eat the zabaglione, so they provided me a berry sorbet as an alternative, which was sweet, but still tangy. It is a mark of excellence on Bucci’s part that we could eat a four course meal in tropical heat and feel satisfied but not stuffed. Try Bucci if you’re in Port Douglas.

OMG the burrata with prosciutto appetizer was delish. Also ordered the ciabatta to go with it and didn’t disappoint. I love going to restaurants where even the small details like the olive oil is so delish that you can’t stop eating it. My husband and I went to try the famous lasagne with truffled marscapone, which came very highly recommended by all the locals but they were out of it. However, he ordered the gnocchi, one of the best he’s ever had, and I had linguine with local crab and loved the flavor, and the lightness as it wasn’t drenched in heavy crème sauce. Amazing service, highly recommended!

If you can’t beat ‘em, eat at em! I was staying at the hotel right next to Bucci’s(Villa San Michelle; nice place and I recommend it too) and since my room basically hung directly over this restaurant I decided to try it. This was a dining delight. The Rocket and Parmesan salad was exquisite. It sounds simple but it was really wonderfully executed. I didn’t like my main as much but that is mainly because it had a lot of meat and I tend to prefer more pasta(which is not how most people feel). I was able to walk right in on a Saturday evening — they were busy but not swamped. The waitstaff really put me at east; friendly and efficient in a really good way; they couldn’t make me feel more at home even though I was on my own. The wine that my waiter recommended was really excellent and the glass they poured was enormous. Good thing I only had to walk upstairs to get home!

I was very surprised by this restaurant in Port Douglas. I wasn’t expecting such a quality Italian meal in the Queensland tropics. I was with three other people, I can’t remember now exactly what they had, but everyone was pleased with their choices. We also shared some very good entrees. I had the open beef lasagne which was delicious and rich. The wine was excellent and the service spot on. Recommended.

OMG. I wasn’t going to mention the hottest waiter on the planet but really, this place is like an Abercrombie and Fitch store that serves food. I might’ve been busted by +1 for lingering glances but I’m on holiday and that’s what holidays are for, right? I gobbled up delicious bread followed by pasta with fresh tomatoes, garlic and basil(the original menu item also had anchovies and cheese). It was simple but freaking delicious. The penne pasta is made onsite(as I’m sure the other types of pasta are) and tastes all the better for it. We ordered main sizes of pasta but with an entrée, we could’ve easily ordered a smaller size pasta and maybe had room for dessert. Excellence shouldn’t come as a surprise because rumour has it, this place is owned by the same guys that own Harrisons. Having worked hospo for a large chunk of my working life, it’s difficult not to notice how the staff work together. This place is faultless, it runs like clockwork, which means we never waited or had to ask twice for anything.

Bucci lived up to every recommendation(there were several). Our family eats a ton of Italian food(we’re Italian), and this was excellent by any standard. Great outdoor vibe and friendly service. The bruschetta was perhaps the best we had ever had. Fresh and flavorful. Other highlights included the crab pasta(light and oil-based but perfectly spicy and tasty) and the barramundi. Also highly recommend the lemoncello gelato. We had it served with basil syrup and a shot of lemoncello. Outstanding! Not cheap, but par for the course in Port Douglas. Should be on the itinerary for anyone in Port Douglas that likes food, especially Italian.

The linguini w/crab and the baramundi are a must-get. They were both way delicious! Oh and the service was quite wonderful. Even with a crazy full house that night they were able to accomodate us. Thank you thank you!
