You will love this place as you walk in the door. You can sit in different settings on each visit and feel at home. There are publications and wall posters etc. to read, books to read or swap. Oh, and the various healthy foods and drinks are so delicious. Nothing is boring about a visit to Red Lime Shack!

Big wide streets. Deep awnings. Sidewalk tables. This is how I think of St Vincent Street in Port Adelaide. It’s not my usual ‘hood, but after a morning kayak trip on the river to see dolphins, we stopped in to refuel at the much talked about Red Lime Shack. There was no doubting you were in the right place with the bright clear signage. Inside, the compact space is kitted out in décor that reminds me of a colourful Grandma’s house, with quirky antiques, and even a free book exchange. Window seats have the dual benefits of people watching, and cute succulents and herbs growing in nanna’s tea cups. The espresso machine takes pride of place on the counter, with delectable and healthy desserts of the raw and vegan varieties below. We waited a few minutes after ordering at the counter, and while we waited, a… errr… «curious» local was moved on by the security guard. It was a bit disconcerting, but we didn’t feel threatened. All was forgotten when the coffee arrived — and we discovered that Red Lime Café used Sydney’s finest strong and rich brew, Campos, in Mr Wino’s double shot coffee($ 3.90). Long overdue, I try my first cappuccino with coconut milk($ 4.40) — it’s great, nutty and smooth, with that strong rich Campos flavour. House-made burgers are the real drawcard. There are two on offer, so we decided to split the difference and try both! Served on house baked whole wheat buns, with fresh salad, onion jam, mustard and tahini mayo, these are super healthy and bigger than a lot of burgers out there. Sweet Potato, Maple & Pecan burger($ 11) lands first. It’s juicy, filling, tasty and has a nice crunch from the cucumber. The patty is thick and has lovely sweetness from the smokey maple and sweet potato. Carrot, Walnut & Sage burger($ 11) seems even bigger! It’s richer and«meatier» and still filling and tasty. $ 30.30 lunch for two is a bargain in anyone’s language, and great recovery fuel after our morning paddling kayaks nearby(highly recommended!).

Its a café come reading nook come band space come masseuse come gallery. Its a bit of everything. Only because we walked past and it was time for some grub did this place become apparent to me and not saying that its not noticeable, but I am rarely down at the Port, and Red Lime Shack was not on my radar of places to try — but I am so glad we did! Its a very casual atmosphere. The staff were lovely and were happy to chat. Questions about the soups of the day did have answers that come with some amusing blank faces. The skeptical vagueness of the«theres vegetables and spices and things» wasn’t the helpful selling point, but I boldy agreed to consume what they had. There was also another bowl offered, with equal vagueness, and my friend chose to accept the challenge as well. Can say — best bold decision of the day! Both soups were very hearty, tasty and delicious! I had cashew butter/cream with mine — unusual, but very much appropriate for my mystery dish. They also do creative blended drinks: I had one that was like a banana piña colada — minus the fun liqueurs. Yum yum! Definitely a place that the creative folks would appreciate spending time in. I didn’t have a half shaved head, which fits the local trendsetters, but everyone was pleasant and happy and I felt this was a top spot to spend any time doing anything. We were there in a quiet patch of the day, so I’m not sure how an open kitchen makes during the busyness of the day. If you are anti-vegan — you should not judge until you have tried it. I am a carnivore lover(sorry to the vegans reading this!), and I really enjoyed the options they had.

So I love good coffee shop and I’ve had a few from here(admittedly, only because the Mayfair next door was closed). The first was terrible, and I’m no connoisseur, but today’s was nice! I ordered a large and received more of what I consider a medium, but that’s not a huge deal. The reason for 3 stars is because this place a little too vintage for my taste to be honest. Don’t get me wrong I love a cute vintage vibe but there is vintage then there’s just old and dated, this comes close to the latter. I just feel like some brighter lights and fresh flowers would really make this place come alive! In conclusion, it’s a 3 for me because it’s just above average

There’s a drum kit in the corner, art on the walls and eclectic furniture around and the menu shines healthy yummy options that make you feel so darn good. Dahl hot pot with brown rice and spinach + choc banana smoothie. Live affirming goodness.

The absolute worst customer service I have EVER received a café. It was a very hot day but the customer service was non existent — helpfully told the information on Unilocal was not correct, was met with ambivalence and told not to come back. Will never return. Zero stars.

I really wanted to be blown away by this place and it almost did blow me away… The style was eclectic, nothing matched, nothing gentrified. It was very original. I’d actually have to question if anything had changed after it was converted from its last life as a different store, did they literally just drag an open kitchen in? I’m all for hipster joints with reclaimed tables and exposed walls but I have to call stuff out when it’s purely left untouched. I feel like this place was left untouched which made it feel dusty. We sat at a reclaimed garden table, it still had hints of its previous outside life being quite dusty and grimy on its edges. We drank water from jam glasses that should have screw top lids, regardless of how hipster that is, it’s not really comfortable to place your mouth on, and how do they clean the inside of these things properly when you can’t get a hand inside, and they’re used so often? I ordered a banana smoothie with dates added it was very sweet. It was nice and had a real raw food café taste. Can’t complain there. The coffee, I ordered a cappuccino that sadly has to get 1 star it was muddy and bland. I had to rescue it with a sugar and even then it was not quite coffee. I do expect quite a lot from a well priced café and coffee is a central offering of any café. Maybe it was the barista on the day because others sing the stores praise but If your coffee game isn’t up to par it’s hard to appreciate why that’s so, just being fair trade certified organic isn’t enough, I’m afraid. As a meal I had a carrot and walnut burger. It was really nice. I’m not a sole vegetarian but I completely appreciated the flavours and ingredients in this burger, it was lovely. Only one of the relishes I couldn’t decipher wasn’t to my liking but that’s only personal preference this burger saved the whole review and brought up my over all experience. If you’re looking for a vegetarian burger, this place has it! $ 11 for the burger though, is that worth $ 11 alone? I’m not quite sure about that but I was certainly full after. Overall not too bad, I see it as an overly try-hard hipster café that isn’t quite on point yet. Instead of trendy reclaimed, it’s just dusty and reclaimed, if the average price was brought down everything might align to being more congruent with the setting and offering of this café. Overall I would come again with my friends who have variety here as vegetarians but not on my own where I think I could find cheaper alternatives.

I was in Port Adelaide because of the Dolphin Explorer Cruise. The cruise finished at 2pm and I was a bit hungry so I was looking for a nice place and could not be happier about my choice. I ended at the Red Lime Shack because of all the good Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed at all: Nice place, delicious food, friendly staff, really good vibes :) This place has it all! I had the waffles and the chocolava smoothie and it was absolutely amazing!

Finally got around to going to RLS for a burger after a recommendation from a friend — SO good. The tangy tahini mayo and the freshness that accompanied the carrot, walnut and sage patty — delish and moreish. Got myself a slice of the raw lime pie slice — so smooth and full of limey goodness — I could have probably eaten a whole one ;)

Went here for a sunday lunch with Miss just turned 3 and husband having dropped Mr nearly 5 off at a birthday party at Alberton oval. We got coffees(Mocha and cap) both were sweet and caramelly — not unpleasant but certainly needed no sugar and ordered both burgers(to share) and a salad(morocan chick pea) and a plate of waffles for Miss 3. The food was very tasty but the waffles took some time(they appologised) by which time Miss 3 finished about 1⁄3 my burger with gusto… in hindsight this wasn’t a bad thing as she only got through one waffle and the accompanying fruit and icecream so hb and I got a look in on the other one. Waffle tasted really good and healthy too. I will def go there again as couldn’t see pizza on the menu but saw one going out which looked amazing.

I dig it. I was pleased that they didn’t charge extra for soy. However, my coffee tasted a little burnt. Disappointed but still curious to try Campos coffee again. I had the sweet potato/pecan burger which was great. I love the vibe of the place. Spacious and laid back. Recycled furniture. Artwork. Will definitely be back.

We were with a severely hung over friend who probably needed a greasy fry up and a bucket of coffee, instead, we dragged her to a vegan café… in Port Adelaide. The café seems soulless, it’s a big open space filled with a variety of mis-matched tables and seating and art tastefully hung on the walls. It sounds like every other vegan café and it should have a good vibe but it didn’t, it was flat. If you could consume nothing else in liquid form for the rest of your life, I would strongly recommend you consider the ChocoLava smoothie. The chunks of coconut mixed with the bitterness of the cacao and the sweetness of the banana and dates is like heaven in a glass. I didn’t realise I was slurping the last millilitres of it out of my glass until the hung over friend snatched it from me and slammed it on the table. Oops. I ordered chargrilled vegetable focaccia. The bread was crunchy on the outside, and doughy on the inside but nicely toasted. Hummus and pesto(dairy free) added flavour to what could’ve been a pretty ordinary mix of roasted vegetables. The waffles are a must-order item. Importantly, they’re made to order so expect a ten minute wait(which seems like forever). I think they’re wholewheat waffles and they’re delicious, lightly covered in real maple syrup and slightly crunchy. Accompanies by plump berries and house made banana ice cream, they are possibly the best thing I’ve eaten since becoming vegan. After writing that, I’m so keen to go back and eat more waffles instead of going to my gym class.

Came for a take away coffee. I’m a fussy coffee drinker and was so so happy to be sipping on a cup of velvet for my afternoon treat. Walking into Red Lime Shack is like walking into a miniature holiday. Breath of earth conscious fresh breath.

Having stopped past often for my morning coffee, I noticed the menu and decided that this place needed to be checked out for lunch. Full disclosure: I’m not vegan, or even close to vegetarian: I like my steak on the raw side of rare, but the burger here was tasty. the filling wasn’t the fried overlord to ruin the afternoon, but a pleasant layering of a chunky Sweet Potato, crisp lettuce and some mustard/chutney/sauce combo that send the tatebuds zinging, all wrapped in a warm crunchy roll. If Only we hadn’t spent so much time talking we might have had time left for some dessert too.

This place has a hidden agenda, an undercover mission to bring veganism to Adelaide. It’s as sneaky as Connery, as straightforward as Craig and has the swagger of Brosnan. A simple, no fuss menu of soups, salads, a burger of the day and some raw sweets are seemingly«just healthy» but are all subtly vegan. Vegans rejoice because you can come here and not feel the need to «justify» the menu to your omni friends! See if they notice is my hot tip. The space is open, colourful and very simple but there is plenty of space to sit on couches, tables and benches. The service is very casual but friendly. I chose a Punk Rock Soup of the Day with pumpkin, cannelloni beans and rosemary with cape seed toast and cashew butter if you please! The soup was piping hot, sweet and not mushy like baby food. It had some great strong flavours and I like the different combo of ingredients. A medium sized, health conscious serving it kept me full until way past dinner time. Coffee is Campos blend(only 1 of 3 cafes to serve it in Adelaide). And if you show interest they will tell you that this is the chosen blend because of is incredibly hands on, environmentally conscious owners. Every little detail here has been so carefully thought out to ensure this place fulfils its environmentally and socially conscious values but to others it can still just be a bargain of a menu and a shining star of a venue in an area that is is trying to build its street cred. Bravo!

I popped into Red Lime Shack a few weekends ago with a Groupon voucher(or a Scoopon? Living Social? I can’t remember!) for two veggie burgers, a salad to share, and two desserts. My(meat eating) boyfriend came with me and showed not even a sign of nervousness as we perused the vegan menu. Red Lime doesn’t have a huge selection, so it didn’t take us long to decide on our burgers and salad. Dessert took even less time; I chose the raw chocolate pie– a no brainer! Our meals were fresh, flavourful, and overflowing with vegetables… just the way I like my food! My boyfriend had nothing but praise for his meal, too. The menu doesn’t advertise that all the food at Red Lime is vegan, and I honestly think that’s the best way to go about it. The food is healthy and full of flavour– the fact that it’s free of animal products is just a bonus.
