The pork roll with egg, cheese and onion is my FAVOURITE, this thing is epic and worth going out of your way for if you’re in to that kind of stuff. Service is wond rul, very homely feel.

Food is delicious, friendly staff, best Portuguese chicken in Petersham. Prices are fair. Eating at Silva’s has always been an enjoyable experience. Noise levels are loud though, not recommended if you’re looking for that romantic, quiet date night. Also suggest booking a table in advance, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. If you arrive without a booking you may have to wait 40min or more…

OMG the food here is amazing! We had the sizzling prawns, grilled octopus, pipis and chicken. Each dish was cooked to perfection! Friendly services! I will be back!!!

The whole place felt like a family run business. It was pretty packed tonight with most tables occupied — this deserves a tick for popularity amongst locals. A large group stumbled out the door singing to some Portuguese song as we tried to enter the restaurant. Happy customers usually means good service and food — tick! Our expectations were pretty high when we waited for our table to be set up. We looked over at the other tables and noticed the serving sizes are pretty generous, with lots of chips on the side. We settled on the whole grilled chicken and pork belly, with a side of polenta. The grilled chicken didn’t let us down. It was juicy and full of flavour! The pork belly was a little disappointing, it came out over cooked and tough. All in all, I’d recommend going for the grilled chicken, and pretty much anything that’s chargrilled. The other tables seem to enjoy the meat skewers too. I’ll check that out next time.

Great food, excellent value and wonderfully friendly staff. I had the quarter Portuguese chicken with chips and my boyfriend had the Portuguese chicken burger with chips. Both were delicious(the burger slightly more so) and each came with an enormous serving of chips.

Only got to eat here once while staying in Sydney but boy was it amazingly delicious food for a super reasonable price! Garlic prawns, pork belly, Espada a Madeirense, Bacalhau a Tachinho were all amazing. Didn’t get a chance to tried the namesake charcoal chicken but wish we had! Everything was house made, including the chips! If you’re in the area, it’s a must try!

I love this place and end up eating here about 3 times a week! I almost always have takeaway, but they have a nice seating area with an expanded menu if you want to eat there. My favourite items on the menu are the Deluxe Chicken Burger(Chicken burger with tomato, cheese, bacon, mayo, lettuce) or the ¼, ½ or whole chicken. Prices are great(Chicken Burger Meals: $ 9.50-$ 10.50; Whole chicken: $ 13.50). They also have a variety of tasty salads, kebabs, and pork belly(which I have yet to try, but which looks delicious!). Highly recommended.

Really, you’ve got to go a chicken roll with chilli and garlic(no tomato and no lettuce) for $ 5.50. Incredible! As a Petersham local, I can say that the burgers here are the best too. Eat-in is OK, but reasonably expensive considering the eating experience. Also, the service is great, which is a lot more than can be said for a couple of the other Portuguese chicken shops in the area. If you’re in Dulwich Hill, be sure to check out Orico’s for similarly excellent food.

Amongst the abandoned shops of Petersham’s New Canterbury Road, one little take-away joint thrives with customers from all over Sydney. Silvas Portugese Chicken and Petersham are all but synonymous terms, interchangeable with one another in every day conversation. And with good reason — Silvas is said to be the most authentic Portuguese food in Sydney, it’s delicious and it’s going cheap. Whilst I once laughed at friends who went out for a nice dinner and came back admitting that they’d ended up at Silvas again, I can now understand Silvas magnet affect. Silva’s gives you their self-proclaimed ‘healthiest chicken burger’ with chips and a soft drink for $ 10.50, or the burger only for $ 5(takeaway). Whilst the burger and chips is a little pricier to eat in($ 12.50) you’re more than welcome to buy your take away burger and eat in on the roadside tables outside the shop. The atmosphere might not be much, but if you’ve listened to anything I’ve said, then you’ll know you won’t be thinking about the atmosphere after your first bite. Silvas also sells a range of salads and rolls, and is particularly famous for its Portuguese BBQ chicken as well(whole chicken $ 13.50). And to Isty’s, my previous Chicken Burger love, I still love you but you should know that there’s someone else in the picture now. I know that you’re not the same, so I’m trying not to make comparisons between the two of you, but Silvas Portuguese Chicken burgers have opened my eyes to the possibility that perhaps you’re not the only one for me.
