Who can say no to cheeky Nando’s? Certainly not me! It is such an easy option when you can’t be bothered rustling up a meal. At Nando’s they marinate their chicken in a delicious peri peri sauce for at least 24 hours, before grilling which results in a flavour punch that will knock your socks off! What makes a Nando’s meal so unique is the fact that you can tailor your order to your individual needs. You decide on the spice level you want, ranging from mild through to extra hot. If you are not keen on spicy chicken, you can lemon and herb, churrasco BBQ or a plain option. On the menu you will find whole chickens, half chickens, quarter chickens and tenderloins. There are also chicken burgers, wraps and pitas. The sides include, peri peri chips, salads, corn, spicy rice and more. My favourite meal is a serve of hot peri peri tenderloins, hot corn and a serve of seriously large per peri chips. It is ideal for me as I love skinless chicken. My favourite Nando’s outlet is the one at 140 William Street as it is always buzzing with life. The manager runs this operation with speed and aplomb. The staff are always, friendly, courteous and helpful. Your food usually arrives within minutes and is always delivered with a smile. The décor is quirky and fun, from the wall art and the Art Deco pieces to the lighting and the sign on the door, everything comes together to say ‘Bem vindo ao Nando’s!’(‘Welcome to Nando’s!’).

Oh Nando’s, if only you were on the west coast in the states, you’d put El Pollo Loco out of business. Originating from South Africa, this Mozambican-Portuguese style chicken shack is everything I love about flavor and spice. Nando’s pulls no punches with their piri piri pepper sauce, which range from mild(boring) to extra extra hot. The beauty of their extra spicy sauce is that while it is fairly spicy, it doesn’t destroy all your taste buds, instead it’s a slow lingering burn, which compliments their always moist chicken quite nicely. On my last two trip to Australia, I must have had Nando’s at least four times. It’s become an easy choice since it’s better than most the other local food. Half a chicken with some coleslaw on the side was my go to order and I’ll definitely be seeking this out next time I’m down under or around DC. While the sauce isn’t 100% organic and natural, it doesn’t have any added sugar, which is paleo enough for me.

Great chicken although a little pricey(I suppose I’m just a pig though). Lots of menu options and you can choose how hot you want your food. It actually has flavor and the chicken is nice and tender.

In the world of fast-food, expectations tend to be low. For most places, the only expectation is that the food is edible. If the food does rise above«edible», then it is a bonus. Nando’s is a pleasant surprise. There is actual flavour in the food, and the sauces that accompany the chicken is also good. The chicken is tender and juicy, and Nando’s understands patrons do like to maintain a modicum of dignity when eating at a fast food joint — hence their provision of plates and utensils. If you’re looking for a quick and cheap feed, Nando’s is a surprisingly good option.

When I became a pescetarian or a person who eats sea food but no other animal flesh I was really worried about what I would eat if I went to Nando’s because my friends and I are big fans and we go pretty often. When we finally decided to go have lunch I wasn’t really looking forward to it(as I was so used to ordering the same things I never really looked at their other options) so I assumed I’d get a pita but without the chicken(lame) but when I did in fact look at the menu I was overjoyed that they made their own veggie patties and they were actually really delicious. All this fuss worrying about what I was going to eat was pointless most places now cater for vegetarians and even if there wasn’t anything else on the menu I would still have been happy with their fries and peri-peri sauce; I seriously can’t cook without it, it has now become a staple in my diet. All I can say about Nando’s is Yum pass the sauce please!

Nando’s will always get five stars from me, but if I could I would take off half a star for this particular outlet because it’s not licenced. Where’s the sense in having a delicious Extra Hot Piri-Piri Chicken Breat Burger and Piri-Piri Chips if you can’t wash it down with a refreshing bubbly cider? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Also, the venue of the restaurant itself is far less desirable than its Lake Street cousin. Nando’s is Nando’s and the food is good no matter what, but for the sake of a nicer experience I would walk the 10 extra minutes to the Northbridge outlet if at all possible.
