I came here with a fellow Malaysian for iftar. I like the atmosphere and how warm the owners were. Food arrived pretty fast too. We ordered mixed tom yam, nasi goreng ayam, nasi goreng pataya. The tom yam was nicely flavored. Mind you, this is Malaysian tom yam and not Thai Tom yam. That being said, you will find beef, celery and even broccoli in the bowl. Nasi goreng ayam came with nyummy fried chicken and a small bowl of soup. Ignore and do not taste the soup. I will leave it at that. The fried rice was good and portion was huge! Ask for sambal belacan with it if you want extra flavor. It’s worth going and good for groups. But for a more authentic Malaysian food, I’d suggest D’Angkasa just right in front of Insan. Hands down, the best mee curry I’ve ever had, even in Malaysia!

After a long hiatus away from this shop(because I’m Singaporean and Insan’s Café is Malaysian), I decided to put our differences aside(read: Chicken Rice), and give it a try. Well I am now a fan and I dare say they do the best Malay cuisine in this part of town! They were so successful in winning me over to the Malaysian Way that I decided to visit this place, twice in two days! I recommend the Nasi Lemak(lit. Rice Coconut) which is a rice dish with some sweet Ikan Bilis(anchovies) and peanuts, an egg, and some deliciously battered fried chicken! The lemak, that is the coconut part of the name comes from the coconut infused rice, which gives it great flavour and some amazing aromas! Beats your plain ol’ boring steamed white rice! The 2nd dish I had was the Ayam Soto(lit. Chicken Broth/Soup) with noodles. It was SEDAP! Meaning yummy in Malay! The broth was hearty and tasty, with tender pieces of chicken and bean sprouts and leak. Mm mmm. I wiped it clean! They could have given me more chicken though! In all a great experience, can be crowded during lunch, and there’s a guy there that creeps me out ‘cos he kept staring at me? He must be a nice guy I’m sure! PS: They also have a pick and choose counter for those who like to see what they are having before they order, combos and that sorta thing. I wholly recommend it! Cheers!
