Devlin’s Cigar Divan

Stocks a fairly limited range of mostly expensive cigars. Great engaging staff who are quite glad to share their passion with those less experienced or entirely uninitiated. I do wonder how many of the cigars have been patiently unpackaged and delicately but deeply sniffed by tire kickers and carpet walkers and serious smokers alike. Not cheap by any means bit worth it for a treat and generally the cigars are the true blue Cuban real deal. Subiaco branch is larger and a little more immersive but this little brother will do just fine should you be nearby.

Cigars are a guilty pleasure. We all know the harmful effects of smoking tobacco, yet… cigars have a certain allure. Cigars invoke a by-​gone era, where sophisticated men would light a cigar after dinner, and where smoke would gently billow in establishments, covering patrons and performers in an aromatic cloud of mystique.
So, entering a place like Devlin’s is like knowingly indulging in a dirty habit — it may not be good for you, but it sure feels great. Devlin’s has cigars to suit all preferences, and the staff are happy to share their expertise.
If the devil had a favourite shop, Devlin’s would rank high on his list.

Smoking is a dirty, horrible habit. Even having said that, there’s smoking and then there’s smoking. If you’re going to do the latter (or the former, whichever reads as classier to you, I can’t format italics on this site), you should definitely hop along to Devlin’s. This is exclusively a cigar shop and they have a great range, catering for every type of smoker from the guy buying cheap cigars for his pal’s bucks party to the more discerning smoker. You can spend anything from twenty bucks to… actually, I doubt there is really an upper limit in here. Cigars are expensive. Luckily, it’s the kind of expensive where a high price transaction feels rather delightful.

If ever I don’t know what to buy my Dad for a special occasion, which is basically every time one rolls around (birthday, Father’s Day, Christmas), the greatest fall back gift is always a fancy cigar, or fancy cigar paraphernalia, and Devlins is a great place to find these things.
I must point out that my Dad isn’t a smoker, and hasn’t been since he was in his twenties or so, but he does enjoy the taste of a good cigar now and then, and if ever there’s an occasion to wear a suit to a party (weddings, christenings etc) you better believe he has a cigar in his top pocket to perfect the look!
As someone who has never smoked myself, not even a cigarette, I am absolutely clueless when it comes to choosing a ‘good’ cigar, but the staff at Devlin’s are always really helpful, and while they’re banging on using words like Cohiba, Honduran and Cuban my eyes glaze over and I just tell them I’ll trust their judgement and give them a price limit.
They also have a beautiful range of lighters and cigar cutters which make me wish I had use for such things. Maybe I’ll get a cigar cutter and use it to top and tail my carrots when I’m cooking dinner!
