Having gone in for a routine check up at the medical centre 2 doors up, I trotted off with my referral and approached the counter of the pathology clinic. They were pleasant, asked me to take a seat and that the nurse would be with me shortly. As I waited I realised that this was a dual practice(as a minimum) with several patients going into private rooms for chiro or physio work.. . I did see the pathology sign so I relaxed and patiently waited. As no appointment was made I wasn’t sure how long it would take to be seen but I wasn’t waiting for much ore than 15 minutes(which is better than anywhere I’ve gone before in Brissy or Sydney.) My nurse was called«Maria» and she was lovely. She started off by apologising for her accent, but I thought a little bit of Mexican would spice up an otherwise mundane procedure. She explained what she was going to do and I filled her in on my history. I am happy to say that I’m not one to get squeamish. I am a blood donor and have a fairly high pain thresh hold so a needle or two doesn’t generally worry me– provided they find the vein. I had my arm strapped, the needle in and 6 vials of blood filled in the blink of an eye(2 minutes at most.) That is speedy work. Maria confirmed my details and gave me some homework– a thorough check up also involves a urine sample to see what’s in my system and as I had just gone to the bathroom while I waited Maria thought it best if I didn’t force myself and simply take the containers home to do my worst. She said I could just drop them in the next day no worries. Little did I know that the reception wasn’t linked with the pathology clinic at all, they just share the same space, so when I’ve gone to deliver my biohazard the next day(in a brown paper bag which may as well have :“URINESAMPLE” stamped in BIG red letters over it), I said«This is for you» and as inconspicuously as possible attempted to hand the bag over to them, at which point the receptionists both withdrew and pointed to the pathology door saying«whoa, that’s not for us.» Awkward! Aside from that, all of the results were combined and sent through to my doctor the next day– speedy work and no additional costs for the testing so my piggy bank celebrated that minor victory.

The fastest blood tests I have ever had. I literally walked in the door with a referral, sat down expecting to ‘wait’ in the waiting room. My butt had barely hit the seat when I got called in. The tests took 3 minutes at which stage I got up and left. This is unheard of where I come from where bloodtests are an ordeal and without fail you bring a book or a magazine. To add to it, I received my results in 3 days? How do they do it? I have no idea and all with a big smile too.
