Hana Rosa was conveniently the only«non-chain» café we found open for a late lunch after shopping one week day afternoon. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend ordered a breakfast overflowing with veggies. The place was virtually empty so we enjoyed a peaceful lunch in the clean and charming back seating area. The food was fresh and good quality, nothing gourmet. I would come back again for brunch. We salivated over the case of yummy cakes and treats in the bakery front on our way out. Leaving something for our next visit to Hana Rosa.

On one of my rare mornings off I planned on treating myself to a dine in breakfast at one of the numerous cafes that line Latrobe Terrace. My first instinct, as always, was to get the paper and a table at the popular favourite, Lure. As I reached the top of the rock climbing wall known as a Paddington hill, however, I decided instead to try something different and have breakfast at Café Hana Rosa. Curse my adventurous spirit! It was a Monday morning and the place was pretty much empty. I liked the old Queenslander feel of the place and I took a seat up the back which was sun drenched and airy. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast and a coffee. The coffee came quickly and was pretty decent. The breakfast came at what seemed like dinner time and was ordinary. Missing half of the ingredients that had been listed on the menu(including the mushroom, and you do not mess with this man’s mushroom) and served cold I was unimpressed to say the least. Whether or not this was just a particularly bad day for Hana Rosa or a recurring issue I don’t know. But given how bad my first impression of this café was I do not plan on finding out.

‘Hana Rosa’ prides itself on offering organic food and coffee. Situated in a quiet part of Latrobe terrace in Paddington, it is a nice café to sit out the front off on a sunny day. The décor of this place is pretty cute– lots of little wooden tables and chairs paired with posters and hangings– a décor that really suits the ‘Paddington vibe’. Whenever I have come here is has been for an afternoon coffee and cake but I know that they also offer breakfast and lunch. The coffees here are pretty good, a little bit bitter for my taste but not so much that it is undrinkable. What I really enjoy from here is the gluten free chocolate hazelnut brownie. If you like your brownies to taste really chocolaty and be really gooey than you will like their brownie. There is nothing one could hate about this little café, it is cute, sells good cakes and is in a nice location.
