Who knew that this quaint, small, tucked away, local deli could serve up such delicious food? I’ve been here twice(the second time, came all the way to Paddington for Alimentari!) and both times, I ummed and ahhed for a good 10 — 15mins, deciding on whether to order from the delectable pastry, pie and sandwich selection from the display window, or have a salad made to order. Well, it didn’t matter what I chose in the end because I was a fan of it all. I sampled my dining partner’s food on both occasions and was quite impressed too!

I wanted something local, something away from the normal tourist spots and I found Alimentari! Tucked away on Williams Street in Paddington, the café/deli is very cute indeed. Even though the place is small, the offering is huge! Pretty much everything and anything you can think of/want. The staff is very friendly too. I had a flat white and panini for brekky and got some deli to go~ Very limited seatings so get there early!

This place is a GEM in the heart of Paddington. It is a spot where the locals meet for coffee and not a tourist can be found. The patio is shaded by a huge tree with the front window of the shop opened to the street. We had the Aussie Pies, Antipasto platter and the Caprese Salad. All were amazing. On top of that they have top notch coffee and a small deli! Be sure to check it out.

This delicatessen and lunchtime café needs no introduction for most of the residents of Paddington. It is continually packed with mothers and children having lazy lunches, businessmen grabbing a quick but delicious sandwich, and passers by who couldn’t help but be lured in by the array of Italian delicacies arranged in the shop. It’s not complicated, this deli offers top quality and truly authentic Italian foods. Every available surface is stocked with various types of pasta, rice, biscotti, olives, oils and vinegars. The counter contains a tantalising display of cheeses, hams and pates — all crying out to be the filling for a toasted Panini. The service is quite clipped, but I suppose it has to be considering the queue that snakes out the door. One thing you can be sure of: you’ll get a great lunch here, and no doubt a whole bag of incredible edibles to take home too.

Despite the small space inside there is room for every chic, pretty, well-moneyed, hungry, boutique-dwelling child, teen, 20s, 30s man/woman, mother, getting-along-in-age gentleman, so long as you find it. That is why only chic, pretty, well-moneyed, hungry, boutique-dwelling people go here. My excuse? A chic, pretty, well-moneyed, hungry, boutique-dwelling friend introduced me to it. It sits at the bottom of a boutique-heavy long road that runs through the heart of Paddington and it is like walking into Italy. I’m guessing. It’s a café but also a deli and serves not just sandwiches and lots of sweet stuff and pasta(simple stuff life spaghetti with meatballs) but also great coffee. Being a deli, there’s also salami and various other meats and crisp bread and cheese. The café is, like its clientele, chic, so look presentable, please(for one or two people that might mean shoes and maybe a belt, everyone else would be ok). There’s stiff competition for seating(there are also a couple of chairs outside) but resist the temptation to do take-away. This place is only good for a sit-in.
