Like others have mentioned, it’s a little unfair to judge U&I café(strange name for a Vietnamese) by real Vietnamese standards. Given that it’s open 24 hours, it’s in the centre of Northbridge and it’s reasonably priced, it’s more on par with McDonald’s or a kebab shop. Anyway, on the Saturday night at around 11pm when we visited, service was slow and inconsistent. Apparently they’re always understaffed, which is how they keep prices low. After being waited to be seated, I asked at the bar and was told to sit at any table. After a few minutes of waiting, someone came over and asked what we wanted, before we were even given menus! Eventually we received menus and ordered food and drinks. The choices were a pan Asian mix of Vietnamese and Chinese, and the phở dishes were just listed as «soups», which was odd. After a wait, everything arrived correctly, which surprised us after the slow service. The food wasn’t bad. The beef in the sizzling beef was tender, but it would have been good if the server mentioned the set dinner options which were a little cheaper and came with rice. The phở came with a side of vegetables, just like Vietnam. It wasn’t anything fantastic, and was on the sparse side with toppings, but perfectly adequate for $ 12 at a 24 hour café in Northbridge.

I think this is one of those things that you have to accept what it is to enjoy it, rather than try to turn it in to something that it’s not. So let’s be real. This is a reasonably healthy alternative to a late night junk binge to soak up some of the alcohol after tying one on during a big night in Northbridge. Once you accept that, you can start forgiving some of the things that would otherwise let down a restaurant’s rep, such as slow and kinda poor service and just OK food. So now that you’ve faced the facts, you can go and enjoy a fresh bowl of reasonably cheap and pretty tasty Phở during your drunken night on the town. But I would not recommend this place for anyone who wants a Vietnamese taste explosion, a quiet meal with friends, or a fast dinner. This is a 2am place to re-group with your buddies after a night out, and if you treat it as such you’ll have a good time.

I was here last night for a friend’s birthday, and being a fan of Vietnamese food, I was looking forward to good food and company alike. We got there at around quarter past 6, most guests would arrive over the next half an hour or so, there were around 50 of us in total. Service was good, considering how many of us their were, they had to bring out our drinks and meals alike in batches, but very good, no meals were sent to the wrong person(as far as I know) given how there was not just our large group, but the place was rather full(it was Chinese New Year and the Fringe Festival). When it came to ordering, there was SO much choice! I decided to go for the duck set meal, which came with miso soup, rice and salad. Salad was some onion/carrot, tomato and cucumber, the rice was a bit sticky, but cooked fine, miso soup was nice and hot, and the duck was tasty enough, although a bit hard to get off the bones, some of which were tiny. I don’t have duck too often, so I don’t have much to compare it to. Drinks were nice and cold I’d give the food(at least what I had) 3 stars, but the service(partiuclarly how busy it was), choice(everyone seemed to enjoy their food) and the fact that it’s 24 hours puts it up another star. I would definitely come back, but perhaps try another dish(two of my friends had the Mongolian Beef, and that did look pretty appetising!)

This place gets a bonus point for being open 24hours, because boy oh boy I needed it after my late shift at work! My sister and I went and decided to try the traditional Phở Dac Biet(combination beef) — not the best broth. I could smell the herbs that were added the to broth but couldn’t taste the richness of the beef through it. Meat and additional garnishes were okay. I must admit though, those chopsticks they supply were a huge disappointment because it was such a struggle to eat noodles with them! We did have some starters, fried squid rings and a stuffed chicken wing. Squid was okay, besides from the store bought mayo. The stuffed chicken wing was actually really tasty! Plenty of stuffing and cooked really well. The other comment I have is that because it is open 24hr you can’t garuntee the crowd there will make for a pleasing experience. We had a very loud group of people next to us with little respect to others and no concept of their volume. Hopefully this place can improve! Really wanting it to do well because I would love phở at all hours of any day! :)

Went to this place for a bite to eat from State of the Art festival. One of the perks of this place is that they open 24 hours. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue(spicy beef soup) and it was delicious very tasty and came out quite quickly. For dessert I had the fried ice-cream was yum! Overall this place is good for a vietnamese dinner, reasonable price, not too bad service and good food :)

The broth for the phở is probably U&I’s most commendable factor — but everything else remained average at most. Unfortunately the Com Tam($ 13) featured an overcooked pork chop and bland broken rice. The Phở Tai Bo Vien($ 12) is my go to at most Vietnamese joints — tonight, it was slightly oily and the rice noodles like the pork chop was overcooked. I enjoyed the Saigon White Coffee($ 5) too; it’s strong and sweetened with my favourite — condensed milk. The only downside was the fact that the glass arrived quarter filled with coffee and was«topped up» three quarters of the way with ice. This isn’t the spot for top notch, authentic Vietnamese food, good service nor enjoyable ambiance, but it certainly serves it’s purpose — a 24hr alternative to McDonalds that has a convenient location!

Alright. Here we are. Its 1am, you’re fanging for a feed and you don’t wana grab a big mac with a side of regret for the 4th night in a row. So you haul your ass into Northbridge without fear(because it’s one of the safest neighborhoods now) and you reach U&I. Now c’mon guys. You know me. I’m a sucker for phở. And U&I is offering me my favorite food 24 hours a day, so yes, I’m going to be slightly biased(don’t judge me — you don’t know me! You don’t know my life!). I will be honest. The food isn’t always spot on. But screw me sideways if the food doesn’t hit the spot 8 out of 10 times and those 8 times are ALWAYS the times you are the hungriest. So I can let those other 2 times go, honestly I can. Seriously c’mon guys. It’s 24 hour Phở. The only way I could like this place better is if they started serving Frozen Coke. But instead they have to serve an assortment of drinks(coconut juice anyone?), desserts, and alcohol. Yeah — they’re licensed. Welcome to the future of late night munchies

For me the main appeal of this restaurant is being open 24 hours a day and offering phở. I ordered the standard phở noodle soup here which was just okay. It seems like this is your standard run of the mill Vietnamese restaurant except that it’s open 24 hours. I know this review is really short but there’s really nothing else worth noting…

I came here late at night asking for the most popular item on the menu — it was really bland, meat was stringy and there just was nothing I enjoyed. I put it all in the bin. I feel bad because the service was nice and the prices are good — but it’s a rare day in my world when I toss a meal.

I’ve been here twice now. It’s okay if you want something quick. The flavours could do with some oomph. I’m not sure how established this place is or whether the kitchen is still sorting out the final kinks in service. Service was consistently polite and attentive. Definitely becoming a regular cheap and cheerful haunt in Northbridge.

After a night that started with Conni’s, then baulked at the $ 15 Deen cover charge only to be placated by backpacker enthused Shed across the road… then a return to Conni’s…24hr Phở was welcome relief at 2am. Service was great, ample seating in or out with a limited menu. The venue is licensed. Despite the fatigue of a Northbridge night my taste buds still worked. The spring rolls, stuffed chicken wings and pork Phở would have had you chopped from MKR. No Viet Hoa or Lido. In this instance quality has overruled convenience. If the latter was more important I’d have rated 3 stars.

We experienced very good service from the staff on Friday night. Large alfresco area with comfortable armchairs. Great cocktail menu. Love the 24 hour aspect and the fact that you can order coffee at any time of the day. One of the few places in Perth where you can sit down with a glass of alcohol without ordering food — a great alternative than Bars and pubs. We ordered a few beers, yet to try the food though.

Not a fan. I was served someone else’s phở which I thought was mine until I was asked«have you had it yet» when I said no it got taken away to another table(mind you I did poke it with my chopsticks so the meat would cook). burger boy also had his dry noodle dish served with soup and the staff member looked like he was hoping I would say we would have it when I told him the order was incorrect. The last straw was when I squeezed an already squeezed lemon. The phở was ok, apple custard tropical milkshake tasted just like milk and although it was just $ 36 I won’t be rushing back.

Now, this location has changed hands a number of times over the last few years and I think U&I Café — 24hr Phở, might be here to stay! Opened last week. Great food for great prices! My vegetable Stirfry was only $ 12, big serve and super fresh — great dish. Hubby had the vegetable curry — it had a real kick to it, great size serve lovely sauce w a kick for $ 15. Bottle of red $ 25! Great! Didn’t like the corn entrée — not tasty at all and tasted very undercooked. Was nice and busy… There is heaps if seating and we walked in and grabbed a table outside. Definitely heading there again soon!
