I went dancing here on a Saturday night around 12 am. There was a massive queue outside but I was inside in 30 minutes. There was a live band playing 90s music and everyone was singing along. It was packed, everyone was having fun and the music was great. The floor was disgusting however covered in gunk from all the fallen drinks. People had glassed full of drinks on the dance floor which is not the safest thing. But all in all I had a good night out at the Mustang.

This place doesn’t make many pretences about being a classy joint — and it delivers. A good spot for a beer or maybe something a bit stronger with usually affable live music and a varied crowd. I’ve found on a few visits the clientele to vary a bit, anything from 30’s-40’s down to the backpacker crowd. It’s a spot that can definitely be hit or miss depending on the crowd, but a definite middle-of-the-road spot here in town.

3.7 rating! The mustang bar is everything and more you want out of a late night establishment. A big bar, live music, and folks trying to get their groove on. It never disappoints, but beware of a few things… that do pull a star or so off the board! As a 30 something, I do feel a bit old occasionally here which is why I usually end up with a decent size group now and then. More important, the floors will be sticky and someone could spill their drink on you. Plus when walking to the toilet, you’ll likely have to weasel through a few meat head groups. And, it’s possible a fight could break out. But don’t worry, stick with a group and groove away up by the band and no doubt you’ll have a great time!

This is the best bar to hang out in Perth. My friends and I had so much fun on Wednesday. Watch your feet though. People are drinking, dancing and having a good time. The music was versatile and so were the people. The manager was super nice, too. I’m leaving Perth on a high note. Thanks, guys!

I don’t know why I don’t come here more often! The Mustang is a good night out people! I danced like a buffoon and everyone else was dancing equally as buffoonish. We had a great time. I wouldn’t come here on the grounds that it is a ‘sports bar’ because that’s just shaming the name of sports bars all around the world, but as a dance bar? Hell to the yeah. The band was busting out some classic rock and roll and they had everyone on their feet. I asked for the name of the band, but after a bottle or two of wine I forgot. Oh well, YOLO. If you’re looking for a successful groove session, the Mustang is your one stop shop!

I have no idea why I always end up in these places, it really isn’t my scene and I protest and go in kicking and screaming and then end up having a blast. We came here on a Wednesday night, We had a friend over from Sydney and we were showing him the ropes in Northbridge as we walked past the Mustang bar his little ears pricked up and he dragged us in. It was a rockabilly’s night and the place was pumping, the gals and guys were dancing up a storm and the conversations was pretty good as well. So it just goes to show, sometimes you need to step out of your comfort zone to have a blast.

I think the problem with Mustang Bar is «it’s all that we got». Meaning, that in Perth, this is the only pseudo-American bar. Lets really emphasize the«pseudo». So we make do with what we have. I came for Super Bowl Monday. Kudos to a bar actually wanting our money this early in the morning and organizing it. My issue is this… for a «sports» bar, if you sit in the booths, you can not see the big screen. Doesn’t make sense. Rather, you have a wooden overhang that features jerseys of whocares blocking the game. For all of the other major sports out there, on game day, all TVs should be on that channel. No one wanted to watch UFC while the NFL was playing. I requested the channel to be changed and the answer was«I can’t. The TV won’t change channels.» And, you’re going to get this fixed… when? That is ludicrous. I sat next to another patron and when he asked(what I presume was) the manager if they had wi-fi, he looked right at him and walked away. Customer service at its finest. I can only imagine how much money you made from 6:30 a.m.-10 a.m., so how about next year you wear a smile and research what a real«American» breakfast is. Thanks.

I’m not going to be the one to come on here and say that it is absolutely impossible to have a good time at the Mustang Bar. But I’m willing to say that it’s not exactly easy! It is located in the heart of Northbridge so it isn’t the classiest place going around but to it’s defence it isn’t trying to be. If you approach the Mustang Bar with the correct frame of mind and the perfect level of intoxication you will have fun. The 40 year old cougars and the good cover band make this a possibility. I’m also a firm believer in that you can have a good time anywhere if you’re with the right group of people. So my only tip is if you want to improve your chances of having a good time make sure you’re with a great group of people who are just out to have a good time! The music is everything from 80s-90s-00s classics by a really good sounding cover band. There is no cover fee so the worst that can happen is you stand in line for 1 and a half minutes and get inside realise you don’t like it and leave!

A sports bar with a big dance floor and killer cover band is a weird combo but it works with the Stang. Its one big open space with a long bar on one side and a smaller one up the back. The stage is at the front and blasts out over the floor with classic covers. The biggest positive is that no matter what state you are in or how youre dressed you are still welcomed with open arms. One night my friends and I had come from a dress up party in male cop stripper outfits, walked straight in and had the time of our lives. Until the bouncer mistook our fake rubber wangs for the real thing and almost booted us! For a great singalong to epic rock tunes with a happy yet loose crowd this is as good a place as any.

Mustang Bar is always lively and if what you want is somewhere just to have a drink, a dance and some good-old fashioned fun, then you could do a lot worse than here. From the outside, it looks like it’s going to be a small, dark, dingy room where one invariably gets covered in other people’s sweat. However, the first time I went in I was surprised by how big and spacious it is, with most of the space given over to dancefloor. That’s not to say you won’t get covered in other people’s sweat. If you venture onto the dancefloor, you probably will — but that’s all part of the fun, right? I recently went on a Saturday night, and they had a live band on. They played covers of R&B and electronicky pop songs — which in theory sounds bad, but in practice was actually pretty good. They were a really tight band and they knew how to get the crowd going — everyone was loving it. I myself was mesmerised by their expert use of autotune. Bizarelly, when I went to the bar the TVs on the wall were showing a bowls competition — not quite in keeping with the American theme, surely?

There aren’t many American Western themed bars in Perth, in fact Mustang’s probably holds the monopoly. If you’re in Northbridge and have had an enjoyable night at dinner and are looking for a little fun and dancing, or have been at a club and are looking for a fun place but to wind down, Mustang’s is great, it’s in the middle of the two. It’s also conveniently located between the clubs and the restaurants so inevitably you’ll end up here at some point, it happens, just go with it. It’s regular patrons aren’t the younger crowd, but there are waves when the younger ones roll in and hit up the black and white checkered d’floor to the jazz band playing or the classic rock music in the bar. It’s a simple place, go for a budwieser, sports, music and food and you’ll be happy.

The Mustang is a pretty jumping place most nights of the week — even weekdays are susceptible to The Mustang’s need for jive. The Mustang styles itself as an old-fashioned bar, with a western feel. Some of the tables towards the back are upturned barrels, to reinforce the idea that the Mustang is charmingly rustic. In terms of beer, it has a decent range, both bottle and tap. The live music at The Mustang is a mixture of top-notch jazz and blues cover bands, and horrible generic rock cover bands who will inevitably drop songs like«Sweet Child Of Mine» into their set — a song that even Slash couldn’t tolerate. When jazz and blues bands are playing, on the other hand, The Mustang is fantastic — the place really knows how to choose their bands. The Mustang is worth going when they are not infested by a generic rock band.

Mustangs is always busy, always. I don’t know where all the people come from but they end up in Mustangs. The loud music isn’t exactly subliminal but it does promote a level of madness. There are no quiet nights in Mustangs, just as there are no quite or corporate events. There’s also the chance of seeing some European sports on TV(with no sound) when no-one else will show it. I like that Mustangs never pretends to be what it isn’t and surprisingly enough, the bouncers aren’t narcissistic and self-righteous. If you come here you know what you’re getting yourself in for and complaining is pretty much a waste of time.

There aren’t many places in Perth where you can go crazy on the dancefloor without a surly bouncer spying you from the corner and promptly asking you to leave for being disorderly — but such is not the case in the Mustang Bar in Northbridge. If you’re after a wild night of dancing, singing and jumping around to some of the best cover bands Perth has to offer then look no further. I like to try out a lot of different places in the city, and usually try at least one new place every weekend, but with that can often come disappointment and wasted taxi rides. If ever my friends and I are looking for a sure-fire place to have fun then we always come back to ‘The Stang’. You’ll find us on the busy dancefloor with our hands in the air singing along to the classics being belted out by the outstanding live bands that play there on the weekends. What better way to spend your weekend than with your arm around your mates and some happy strangers screaming out stompers like ‘Place Your Hands’, ‘Sweet Child of Mine’, ‘Forget You’, and ‘I Like The Way You Move’? The door staff are friendly and efficient — the queue is usually about 20 people deep on a Friday and Saturday but you won’t be waiting longer than 10 minutes to get in. The bar staff are fast, friendly and helpful — a combination rarely seen in Ozzy bars. I recently asked a barmaid to help me choose a bottle of cider at 1am. I know how annoying that must have been for her, but she willingly obliged and picked me one that was both fitting in taste and price! That’s not to say it doesn’t have its drawbacks. It really isn’t a place for the faint-hearted. The floor is filthy — your shoes will never be the same once they’ve taken a trip to this watering hole, and neither will the ends of your trousers, or your legs if you’re brave enough to wear a dress in here! I say ‘brave enough’ because the place can have a bit of a ‘cattlemart’ feel at times. The lights are bright and there are some quite unusual characters lurking about who seem to think a creepy stare is the way to attract a girl, or even trying the old ‘dance-up-behind-her-when-she-least-expects-it’ routine. However, dirty shoes and a cheeky ass-grab here and there are well worth it, because the random conversations you have with these harmful characters will more than likely be the highlight of the tremendous night you have in Mustang Bar.
