The name makes me picture that giant chicken that’s always having these epic city-wide punch-ups with Peter Griffin in Family Guy. I don’t even know if that chicken has a name beyond ‘fighting chicken.’ But I digress. Psycho Chicken has that many burgers that I was kinda blown away and into stunned silence while the girl at the counter just kind of stood there awkwardly wondering if I’d dropped into a sudden coma. The tyranny of choice made me panicked and I went for a beef burger, which was the logical choice at a chicken shop, and the entire time I was eating it I was wishing it was chicken. It was a pretty average beef burger to be honest, the bun was way bigger than the patty, I was biting into it and hunting around for the puck of meat and it was doing its level best to evade me. But yeah, this review is pretty much all my fault. I got comprehensively out-ordered. By myself. Which is a first.

Visions of an avian mad cow disease mutation pop up at the sight of this awfully named takeaway joint, but make sure to give them a go — select items from the menu are surprisingly good and pretty cheap, too. When the working day has been long and tiresome, many a night has called for a drive by to this friendly, jazzed up chicken shop, where rows of skewered, barbecuing chooks are lined up on rotisseries behind the front counter. Their range of muffins, banana bread and cakes appear to be outsourced with that typical mass-produced taste. Bypass these run of the mill options and stick to the savouries — their«Filay»(no, not ‘filet’) burger is simple but satisfying with iceberg lettuce, sliced tomato, mayo and a fat slice of flame grilled chicken breast on a sesame seed topped, fluffy white bun. Grab a couple of side salads and you’ve got a relatively healthy dinner to serve up — the shredded English spinach with beetroot and crumbled feta, or classic greek salad with big chunks of tomato and cucumber are good options.
