PappaRich, I’ve been eyeing you off for awhile. I’m happy to say I’ve finally tried your food and I’m a big fan! After the Unilocal Revelation Movie event we popped into Papparich for a late night feed. The ordering process was quick and easy with self ordering and buzzer — the waiters were very friendly and explained the process to us newbies! The food came out quickly despite the restaurant being fairly busy. They lose a point for cleanliness as the plates and cups were a little dirty. Food wise — we loved it so much that I forgot to take photos! We dined on the chicken curry and roti platter, prawn dumplings and their hokkein noodle special. Everything was fresh and FULL of flavour. We can’t wait to go back! ps. price wise; extremely great value!

Tasty food and although probably not the level of a hawker market its hard to complain in Perth as a lot of the dishes can’t be all found in the same spot. Has vegetarian options so a good option for the vego’s. The best thing about this place is the extensiveness of the menu, it has all the core Malaysian classics you desire.

First time I’d visited here. Extremely busy even at 830 pm! Popular Malaysian cuisine. I liked being able to write down my menu choice on an order slip(I changed it a few times lol). Service was quick in terms of food being served, though we did have to ask for water and replenishment, as they weren’t forthcoming with it. Plenty of great menu options to select from. Mine was Fried chicken, sambal prawns and a flavored rice with a pappadum. It was HUGE. Very tasty, filling and great prices. Definitely be going here again!

Sometimes Papparich has a queue outside but the queue tends to move quite fast. Beeper system is good and makes it much easier to call a waiter if needed. Papparich definitely cooks up good food, however, I do feel as though it lacks the ‘authenticity’ in Asian food. It’s Western tweaks in their dishes are expected but nonetheless, tasty. Their teh tarik(cold), laksa and assam laksa are delicious.(Do remember to use the prawn sauce you’re given and stir well if you do order the assam laksa. It’s quite a strong taste on its own but delicious mixed in.) Roti and ice kachang is also worth a try!

This place quite often has a line outside(and for good reason), but don’t let that turn you off! It moves quickly and the food service is so quick, it makes up for any wait for a table. Papparich is a somewhat quirky Malaysian place. Once you get a table, you peruse the menu and everyone writes their order by code number on a sheet of paper. When you’re ready, you ring a bell to notify the server to come pick it up, and it seems like your food appears in no time at all, even with a large group(we had 8). Do be aware that they will only give you a table big enough for people present at the time(and don’t take reservations)…so we initially had a table of 4 and had to keep upgrading as other folks arrived. A mild annoyance, but they did accommodate us. In addition to plenty of meat, they cater to vegetarians and have at least one vegan dish.(Apparently you can ask for a brochure that details all the ingredients for other dietary needs.) There is a whole page of vegetarian options, though nearly all of them include«vegetarian mutton» — a fake meat that I didn’t love. I ended up getting the roti canai, which was cheap, filling, and delicious(if not terribly healthy…). I expected the roti to be like a naan, but it was almost a bit sweet and quite moist and flaky — delicious with the daal/sauces! They also have an incredible selection of specialty drinks — from authentic asian flavors like black sesame to more Australian(milo) and all kinds of fruit. I got the lychee lime drink and it was amazing — really like dessert to top off the meal. There isn’t much in the way of «ambiance» here — very plain décor. Service was friendly and efficient. Not a place to take a date you’re trying to impress, but great, cheap, fast, delicious dining when you’re in the mood for a casual meal. I“m sure I’ll be back!

Fast and tasty. I’d been meaning to give this place a go since it opened, and hadn’t had the chance until a Saturday night earlier this month. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Queue was mercifully short, barely a 10min wait which wasn’t bad for about 7:30pm. Once seated, we were straight into it — the smells of the various tastes and flavours wafting through the dining room like a sirens song. I was throughly impressed by the tandoori chicken. It was properly cooked, flavoursome, and I honestly wanted more of it. The chilli sauce they served with the dish was also smashing, a mild taste that nicely balanced the heat — but still opened up the sinuses causing me to reach for a spare napkin more than once(apologies for that imagery). The taste, flavour and quality of every dish ordered was consistently good. And for the price point, I’d consider it good value for money. Minor issue with a drinks order being missed, but that was a small and single problem with what was an entirely fantastic meal. Hot tips: 1) Don’t be afraid to press the buzzer again: If nobody arrives at your table within a couple of minutes of pressing the buzzer, just press it again. The signalling system uses a display in the dining room, and if they miss the number or someone else chimes in, they might miss your call. 2) Pace your orders: Make your order for some entrees and drinks first, and then have your slip ready with your mains orders when those arrive. If you don’t do this, chances are everything will arrive at once, and you’ll be struggling for places to put things on your table. (Yes, this was a noob mistake we made, and we learned our lesson)

Fresh, tasty, spicy Malaysian food! Good service, great price and when we asked about a gluten free menu they produced a detailed list of what dishes did and did not contain gluten. Great! Will definitely come again and recommend to others.

An awesome assortment on the menu! There was heaps to choose from, we were sitting there for ages trying to figure out what to get haha! Restaurant was quite busy but we managed to get a seat, good concept when you are ready to order you press a button and they will come. Once we figured out what to get we pressed the button and a waitress came in a flash! I ordered the Pappa special biriyani rice with fried chicken, sambal prawns and sambal eggplant. The meals came out so fast! We ordered and less than 5 minutes later the meals were out wowsers!!! I enjoyed the biriyani and the fried chicken was delish! The best was the sambal prawns and sambal eggplant amazing spice and tasted fabulous with the biriyani rice. YUM! Overall good experience here, would like to go back to try more meals. Roti Canai here I come! :D

I went to pappa rich after watching the ice hockey. This was around 9.45−10pm. There were no queues. I ordered the roti canai with beef rendang and sambal and a honey lemon tea. My friend ordered rice with beef rendang and a prawn curry and an iced chocolate. The beef rendang was deliciously spicy and the sambal so flavorsome. I was licking my plate after. Best Malaysian food I’ve ever had!

My first Malaysian restaurant experience and my first Laksa ever… For a girl who loves her food, this is a little bizarre, I know. Cool features about this place include the ordering service, where you peruse the menu, fill out an order form and press the buzzer on your table. I also thought the menu was great and covered a lot of dishes. Service was quick and prices were decent. Apparently there are often lines out the door but we went on Wednesday night and got seated straight away. Saying this though, there were periods where people were waiting but not many. I can see how it would get super busy on a Friday or Saturday but that’s like most good places. I would tell you how good my laksa was but I have nothing to compare it to! It was good in taste though. I look forward to going back and trying the Roti.

Super speedy Asian delights. Falls under one of my favourite food categories chasian which means cheap Asian food. If you are familiar with beef rendang, eggplant sambal and buriyani rice then you will love it here! Super affordable, lightning quick service. They serve you by getting you to write the number of what you want from the menu and quantity then you press the buzzer and they collect your slip and bring out your meal. They also have a few pages worth of drinks!

Great service with a smile The food came rather quick which makes you question the freshness. I had the lamb briyani which was great. Good serve of lamb with tasty briyani rice. You could certainly tell there was heaps of MCG in it though as I was super thirsty after our meals. Something that I picked up being a Malaysian. The nasi lemak was good for perth standards. Sambal was spicy enough and you could smell the coconut fragrant in the rice. Overall the food was good, and pretty close to what you will get in Malaysia especially with the variety of food and drinks that you get. Slightly gutted that they don’t do authentic style cendol served in a bowl with heaps of Palm sugar etc. oh well. It is still a great joint to go to if you would like to have a taste of Malaysia(or satisfy your cravings — like me) and to not get disappointed by their service or choices of food. Must try: nasi lemak, briyani dishes, and the ice coffees. :)

PappaRich on James Street is a wonderful addition to the restaurant scene in Perth. This Malaysian restaurant operates like a well oiled machine, which means your dinner is on the table in a flash! I love the system they have for ordering. I felt it was like keeping score for a game of Scrabble, the difference is that everyone has their own sheet of paper and pencil. The waitstaff provide you with lovely, colourful, clearly numbered and well illustrated menus and you are left to write up your order. A simple, yet highly efficient system which works splendidly. Once your orders are noted you press the buzzer and a waitperson magically appears and whisks away your orders. Within minutes, your food is delivered piping hot to your table and you will be tempted, as I was, to wolf down your food. I tried a few dishes, but my favourite was the Pappa fried noodles with the extra chilli — it was extra tasty as well! The Coconut Paradise certainly cooled my palate and was quite refreshing. The service is impressive with an emphasis on speed. So if you fancy a taste of the Orient visit PappaRich for a unique dining experience!

Totally like the fact that Malaysian food is all the rage! There was a queue but it moved excessively fast and before we knew it we were seated. I love the unique way of writing down exactly what you want via a number system and then pressing a little button to order! You can even write little comments about how you want the dishes served or cooked on the side. I am a big fan of Malaysian food and so I liked this place. I would definitely suggest ordering a drink if you order any spicy dish as the creamy milk is a great balance. We tried a wide variety of dishes including a combo of 3 chicken and 3 beef satay skewers(we couldn’t decide which so the combo was a neat option), roti and papparich fried seafood noodles. My highlight was my drink with soy milk and a massive scoop of sesame seed ice-cream on top. They even do takeaway if you want other dishes to go! Next time I will totally be getting dessert!

I don’t do queues, so when I saw PappaRich was finally without it’s usual line, I decided to head on in. Bring on the Malaysian goodies! Note: there was a queue outside not ten minutes after I arrived. I was struck by indecision as soon as I opened the menu. I’d heard really good things about the laksa so had been keen to try it, but when I saw pictures of the roti canai, I was torn. Finally, I settled on the curry laksa and an egg sago pudding. Rightly or wrongly, my impression of Malaysian cuisine is that it’s light on the veggies and heavy on the meat. Since I tend to to eat in the opposite direction, I don’t usually seek it out. My first glimpse of the laksa reinforced this opinion. However, just as I was thinking«chicken and some beansprouts do not a meal make» and lamenting not choosing the vegetable laksa, the soup hit my mouth like an explosion of flavour and all thoughts were replaced with«yum». It was super tasty. The ingredients were good quality, and I was particularly happy with the texture of the noodles. I’m a picky noodle biatch, so I was a little surpised by this. The egg sago pudding was yum too, and I was sorely tempted to lick the bowl clean. Not bad for someone who’s not that keen on sweet stuff. Food aside, I was impressed by the service. The waiters were efficient, polite and quick to explain the ordering system. I’m not fussed about the atmosphere, which is bright and noisy. The latter is not helped by all the hard surfaces, the constant dinging of the table bells and the open kitchen. On the other hand, it was very, very noticeably clean, which is not something that can be said of all the restaurants in the vicinity. The prices are reasonable. My poor stomach, which doesn’t cope too well with really rich foods, got doused in coconut cream tonight, so I was extremely glad to walk home and get some fresh air. As I write, I am still nursing a huge laksa belly, but I don’t regret a thing because the food was delicious. I will definitely be back. Two thumbs up.

Meh, don’t really get the hype of this one. We got there at 12.20 for lunch and waited over 45min for a table. Luckily the weather was good, otherwise it would be a horrible wait and not sure if it would be entirely worth it. It’s not that the food isn’t nice, I just don’t know if its worth a 45min wait. Once we were seated we placed orders on a little order doc and pressed a bell for the wait person to collect. We did get mains before our starters, which I do sometimes find annoying, but I was so hungry I didn’t care. We ordered the roti with dips(which really was delicious)! A must order if you’re going to wait for food. I has the laksa(seafood) which was about $ 14 or so. I wouldn’t say its the best I’ve had, it tasted pretty standard for laksa. Could get something similar in a food court, and probably cheaper. I also ordered a mango magic juice which was WAY too sweet, almost Undrinkable, I had to leave half of it. Would I go back? Yeh, if there was no line and I was seated straight away. Probably wouldn’t wait though.

What a long line! Was it worth the wait?? Maybe actually… We queued for 40mins, however, if it hadn’t have been for the company and the beautiful weather I would have abandoned ship after 15mins. Despite the queue, the food arrived at lightning speed, which was handy as much of the usual pre food chat and wait was essentially done while queuing. The food was exceptionally tasty, and consistent. We over ordered as per, but we somehow managed to eat most of it! I would certainly return, although not on a rainy day.

*Meh* chain store food that’s definitely not worth lining up for. Two fellow Unilocalers and I braved the crowds(read: got there early so we didn’t have to line up) to eat at the much talked about Papparich the other day. I say«don’t believe the hype». It’s good, but not great. It’s good enough. I will vouch the Roti Canai and the drinks are a true representation of the cuisine and mighty fine. The laksa — bzzzt. Just didn’t do it for me after reading all the rave reviews. Although I must say the tempura style eggplant in there was fabbo. But that’s the first time I’ve had eggplant in a laksa, so I wonder if it’s «traditional»? I was also super disappointed at the claim of it being Nonya cuisine. No Popiah. No chicken-rice balls. No Cendol(the latter I might have missed on the menu???) And the one thing I am absolutely craving for, after eating myself stupid on them in Melaka, are the little pineapple paste biscuits — name forgotten, but taste and enjoyment will NEVER be forgotten. Don’t tell me I have to go back to Melaka to get them. *sigh*. The things we do for food.

In the busy precinct of Northbridge, the doors open at ‘Papparich’– A Malaysian food franchise. Waiting patiently in an extensive queue, a lady comes around and issues you with a number. It’s comforting to see that they acknowledge your presence. It was a 10 minute wait(but felt like 30mins because I was so eager to try this new restaurant out) Food was affordable around $ 13.90 for most dishes. We ordered several dishes to share between the two of us including laksa, mixed satay sticks yummm!, roti with beef rendang, crispy chicken skin(a bit like pork crackle). Food was brought out in an efficient time and manner. It took only 5minutes before our entrees arrived at our table. The taste was something my hubby had been missing from his hometown. It is a breath of fresh air to see a new establishment in Northbridge which will probably put pressure on nearby Asian restaurants… Hopefully this will inject some competition and boost industry service levels in Perth. Service was pleasant. Take note: if it’s your first time here, you hold the power in your hands by filling out an ‘order form’ provided, then this is passed on to a waiter/waitress. It’s pretty casual. All in all, would definitely come back when we are craving Malay cuisine again.

There has been a line outside the door of PappaRich since it first opened in Northbridge last Friday and for good reason. I won’t lie, I was one of the first in line. I have been craving kaya toast, half boiled eggs and just a darn good teh tarik since I returned from a trip in Singapore in 2010. So you can only guess what were the first things I ordered here… And it did not disappoint. There is certainly no shortage of items to choose from on the menu and at every table you will find different diners recommending their favourite dishes. Honestly for prompt, tasty Malaysian street food, it is hard to go wrong with PappaRich. Prata/paratha/roti canai is one of my favourite food items in existence and here I could dive into roti telur or egg prata with chicken curry. Tasty and filling with a good amount of kick with the sambal. Don’t expect a flashy, fine dining meal here, just very tasty, hearty, simple and genuine Malaysian food. I was here again tonight eating nasi lemak and drinking Kopi and I left yet again with a full and happy belly. Give it a go, it won’t cost you much. Consider going during the day if you wish to avoid a longer wait as the line does get large at night time but do be aware that if you don’t have time to line up, they do also have a takeaway menu. :)
