On a recent visit to Hobart we had dinner at Capital and loved everything about it. It’s in a buzzing area with lots of action — obviously the place to be. The interior is cool with an on-trend industrial feel. Front of house staff were knowledgeable and friendly and the food was delicious. We order a couple of entrees and mains to share between the two of us. The meatballs were large and juicy and the grilled cheese was to die for. The pasta was cooked perfectly and had the right sauce to pasta ratio. We’ll be back next time we are in town!

Stopped in after a day on the Hobart waterfront and received excellent service. Wonderful wine and truly great lasagne and pizza … my son couldn’t get enough!

Delicious! I had the pumpkin risotto, dad had some sort of steak and we shared the meat balls appetiser. I can’t wait to go back and try the other appetisers. And that toblerone cocktail!

For our second last night in Hobart, my parents watched our kids so we could have a date night. I grew up here, but so much has changed and without a reservation I had no idea where we should go. So we drove to North Hobart and decided to eat wherever our noses led us. What I noticed first about CapITAl was a couple of the meals that were being served up to the diners sitting outside. They were artistically presented and seemed like good portions. I was sure I’d never been to CapITAl before, but my husband was certain that we had because he recognized the staircase inside. Turns out it was the old Marti Zuccos, which we had been to on our last visit 3 years ago. It ended up being a 20 minute wait for a table(at 8:30pm). The bartender(one of the owners) talked to us a little while we waited. My husband actually recognized him from a restaurant we’d been to earlier in the week, and it turned out he owned that one too! Anyway, once we were seated, the friendly waitress gave us time to work out what we wanted and brought out our meals in a reasonable time. We probably should have ordered some bread to bide the time while our mains came out(about 15 minutes or so). I ordered the beef cheeks which were served on top of truffled cauliflower purée, roasted vegetables, chervil and parsnip crisps. The sauce that was surrounding it was particularly good. The beef was very tender and melted in my mouth. I don’t remember what my husband ordered — I think it was the Fettucini alla Boscaiola — and he enjoyed it. Our standout though was dessert. Nutella Pizza. O.M.G. This was so divine. It can easily be shared between 4 not-super-hungry people too. This was a chocolate based crust, spread with nutella, topped with crumbled chocolate meringue, crushed pistachios, fresh berries, raspberry sauce, chocolate sauce, and marscapone cheese. I’d love to go back to this place to check out some of the other things on the menu. Many seemed quite interesting and unique.

$ 36 for 5 small plates to share was good value. We had Saganaki Cheese, Deep Fried Whitebait, Chorizo with Feta, Pork Belly with Fig Jam and Gorgonzola, Italian Meat Balls. We also had bread with olive oil and balsamic. All were tasty. Downsides, all coffees only standard size, and Wine Menu while being very extensive was also very expensive. Would come back to try Pizzas and other mains, all reasonably priced. Pizza Menu offers some interesting and tasty sounding choices, very gourmet . Not sure if BYO, but only way to have wine at this place with your meal. If not, water and or coffee, or perhaps a glass of wine.
