So birthday drinks after dinner we stopped in to the Moose. The music was from the 50’s and the stools were wobbly. I ordered a Sour Apple Martini, which tasted more like a jar of Masterfoods Apple Sauce. I tried a couple of the other guy’s cocktails but nothing really impressed me. Cost: I think I am spoilt for cocktail prices from going on cruises. Paying $ 18 for a cocktail makes me feel really, really dirty inside. Bartender: I dunno. Your wild arm-flailing whilst making cocktails didn’t really make up for your lack of personality. Overall: I’d rather a frozen coke from McDonalds.

I’ll preface this with — Unfortunately I am one of those people that gets massively peeved with the ‘tude and I tell everyoneeeee(via Unilocal) ;) So onto the evening– I was quite looking forward to trying this place after a friend of a friend heard from their friends 2nd distant cousin that it might be good. We ventured in on a Thursday and despite the lack of ambiance after considering leaving we were won over by the half price tapas plates and $ 8 sours and decided to give it a try. Ordered 3 cocktails & a vegetarian tapas plate to kick off the night. One of those was a whiskey sour. When asked if I wanted Makers I said sure, assuming that must have been what they used in the special(considering the special was still going for another 15mins). The drinks arrived– nothing special– definitely all tasted kinda mainstream using bottled juice/tinned fruits. The food arrived and it was well worth the half price amount but not the full price. Also tasted mainstream– could have been marinated veggies from woolies but all was saved with the stuffed mushrooms(which I would recommend ordering by themselves and pushed this review up from 1 to 2 stars). Moral of the story– Never trust 4th hand information. When we went to pay turns out my whiskey sour was $ 18 not the advertised $ 8 because … «sorry, I didn’t realise it was during the special times and the special would use house spirits anyway and you chose makers mark which is a premium spirit»… Uhhh but you asked me if I was okay with Makers– I assumed it was included considering it was within the special hours, don’t you think you should have told me? «yeah I should have sorry that was probably my fault» But BAM — still cost me $ 18. Kinda think in this case I should have got benefit of the doubt and been charged $ 8. And because of the way it was handled and pushed between the staff members I wont be back. Not when there are so many other amazing places on King St that are better value, have ambiance and focus on customer service & satisfaction!

Given that the café has the same(or similar) name as our production company, myself and my team have always been curious about starting up a relationship with them and making ‘Moose’ café our local meeting place. Serving coffee in the afternoons and wine in the evenings, Moose Café is a chilled and classy place to wile away your time in. It’s got a cool vibe and is tres trendy, like an old jazz bar, in fact the Moose Café even occasionally has a live jazz band playing in the front of the café. Licensed and open late, the Moose Café appears to be more of a classy drinking hole than a coffee sipping establishment, but make no mistake, it offers both, however, its opening hours are more accommodating to the sophisticated wine drinkers rather than those moorish coffee guzzlers.
