The Arms. Tommy and Phil Emmanuel. Pittwater through the trees. A carpark on the waterfront.
Coleslaw that tastes like someone cleaned the bowl with Dettol. Burgers made as slowly as a human can. An upmarket restaurant so unbelievably average it must have been designed to be mediocre, the only thing upmarket being the prices. It was called the ‘Sandpiper’.
Its a few years since I found myself at the Arms but for a time I was there every single weekend. The «Emmanuel Brothers» reference will give you a clue about when that was.
So why a review after all this time?
Justin Hemmes bought it on Tuesday night.
Wait for the updated reviews when this iconic place finally fulfils its promise.

Amazing! What else can I say? Well there is a lot actually so here goes. My girlfriend messaged me the morning of and told me she was heading here with a few of her girls and was wondering if I wanted to come. Of course I said YES! I never turn down a chance at trying a new place. This place is definitely not for the tourist population as it would be super difficult to get to if you didn’t have a car. I loved the fact that it was massive with tons of outdoor seating and the view was spectacular to top it off.
I decided to order a Burger and fries. Now this is how the restaurant service works. You go up to the counter and order, after that they give you a buzzer which will go off when your food is ready. So in my opinion this place is in between a fast food joint and a full service restaurant. We decided to split a bottle of white wine to go with our meals. It was nice to see that they gave the bottle to us in a bucket of ice to make sure it stays cold.
I found the food to be tasty and full of flavour. It was a bit messy which another girl had warned me about but all in all a great choice. I found the serving size to be the right amount. It didn’t leave me hungry for more and I was able to also split a dessert with my friend. Usually I never have room for desert but in this case I am glad I did. We ordered the lemon meringue with a scoop of ice cream on the side. It was to die for… It’s been a while since i’ve had lemon meringue and they nailed my taste buds right on the head.
Cute little place that everyone should check out. Great for groups, families, friends, little ones. you name it.

Met up with a group of mates with kids and it was a great location. Lots of space for the kids to runaround, they also have a small playground. Good selection at the bistro, lots of space and great views. Check for group bookings, otherwise arrive early to grab a table.

It has been a while since a venture to the Arms so when all the wives went to QLD the dad’s thought let’s give it s go.
Gotta say I was impressed.
The food presented well and tasted great. I think it was a big step over a few years ago.
Love the lounges in the lower garden replacing the old sand pit. Very Ku De Ta.
As usual did not see the kids unless they were thirsty after eating thanks to the two pay areas.
If you have not been for a few years have s crack.

This place is huge. Douglas Adams describing space type huge. There are all sorts of serfdoms and kingdoms tucked away. Yobbo bar at the front, yuppie restaurant at the rear and semi-​outdoor family friendly beer garden and bistro downstairs.
Great area close to the marina, but not far from Newport proper. Well worth checking out.

Ah, the Newie. What to say that has not already been said.
The view over Pittwater is fantastic. Good, honest pub grub, well cooked and sized and priced — hard to fault. Large beer gardens, multiple bars, big screen for sports etc, live music regularly.
Nothing wrong here. Get thee to this spot on a nice Saturday afternoon and enjoy — but have a plan to get home!

Monstrous pub always makes for a good time.
It’s got so many different areas you can pick a zone you like. Inside dining? Table for large group on the patio? Sunshiney picnic table, covered or open? Grassy spot? There’s all this and more.
There have to be at least 3 bars here, maybe 4. The large kitchen has a variety of pub meals and dessert. The beers on tap may be the frostiest I’ve ever had. There’s a large fenced play area for little ones. And there’s a great view out over one of the arms of Pittwater, where you can watch dragon boaters and people walking their dogs.
It’s big enough that several areas can be segregated for private functions and they don’t interfere with the space at all; you probably won’t even notice they’re there.
Perfect for an outdoors beer on a hot day, with or without kids.

Huge beer garden which is great for a mid week lunch with the girlfriends. Beautiful view and big bonus playgrounds for the kids! We can enjoy a beautiful pumpkin salad and glass of wine in the sun while the kids play happily. On the weekends its packed so plan ahead.

We stopped by here for lunch on the way up to Avalon. Has a great outdoor seating area and some good food options. Might be a little heavy on the oil at times, but still really good venue and quite peaceful. Has fantastic outlook. I had Cesar salad which was huge.

So after a nice day in Palm Beach, I took a trip to this place. It was recommended by my buddy who was driving, he said it has some great views. So we get there, and this place is packed for a Sunday. And that is quite amazing as it is huge. The insides host TAB betting, pokies, hotel accomodation, a few bars… Then you go outside where there is an amazingly large beer garden, a few more bars, a stage, plenty of seating, and a place for kids to run around.
So we order some beers and some fish and chips. The beer was cold and refreshing after a day at the beach. There is a good selection here, so you should be able to find what you want. The food on the other hand, it was filling and satisfied, but don’t expect anything better than pubfare.
The biggest annoyance for me (and possibly benefit for others) is the amount of kids running around. I don’t drink on the play ground, don’t bring loud screaming kids to the pub to get rid of their energy. Without kids everywhere this place would be perfect for a few beers to waste away a sunny afternoon with a great view.

The Newport Arms is sprawling behemoth of a place. A multi-​leveled venue offering a range of experiences from restaurant dining to TAB betting. The food outlet area feels more like a food court with fast food style offerings: pizzas, burgers etc. Food is reasonably priced and simple, though the pizza we ordered was inch thick with cheese, so not exactly appealing to foodies.
There is no doubt though that with views over Pittwater it’s a cracking place for a beer with the kids on a Sunday afternoon — if only everyone else didn’t have the same idea. There are few places to visit with children where you can relax with a glass of wine but personally I think that’s a good thing. Families en masse all trying their best to ignore the kids and chill out does not make for a relaxing time but hey, it could be right up your alley.
There’s ample seating, some of it shaded and there are even little play areas for the teetotal tiny people.
There’s a huge outdoor screen with beanbag seating that would be incredible if you liked big-​screen sporting events.
Also onsite: Hotel accomodation, TAB betting and bottleshop.
Think big and bold and you won’t be disappointed.

The Newport Arms is a great spot, and is one of those quintessential Northern Beaches watering holes that people from other areas might get jealous of at times.
It’s stunning; located right on the water at Newport, you look across to Scotland Island and Bayview. This view, in combination with a Corona, good company and a sunset, is an absolute world beater.
The beer garden is MASSIVE, and always generates a crowd on the eve’s of public holidays — I don’t know when Australia Day eve became a big deal, but so you have it. New Years and Christmas Eves are always incredibly busy.
The Arms always puts on a good show for occasions; Melbourne Cup there is a great time, as is watching a sports match on one of the giant projector screens. But be warned — unless you’re there for an event, it’s normally pretty quiet. The venue is simply too large to feel full unless it really is.
The food from the bistro is usually quite good; I like the pizzas. The bars are well stocked, the venue clean and the staff attentive.

The Newport Arms Hotel also known as «The Arms» by locals, calls for a relaxed Sunday evening session, listening to some tunes, sipping on a beer and sampling the fish and chips caught fresh from the sea.
The Arms Burger is simply mouth watering and comes with fries. The Newport arms boasts views of the water, which attracts large crowds. The venue hosts Christmas Eve and New Years Eve parties which draw thousands of locals and out of area customers. The beer garden is simply huge, with plenty of spots to sit, smoke, drink or dance! The Arms also has a games room upstairs where people can gamble away.
The beer garden is supposedly the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere, with the bars holding over 26 beers and stocking 250 types of wine! With so many patrons, it can take the staff a while to prepare and cook the meals, which sometimes results in cold food.
