Visiting Brizzy & a friend recommended the Gettin’ Place… with a name that good I couldn’t resist! A delightfully cute & friendly little spot with super lovely, attentive staff and a great, rosemary-scented outdoor courtyard with ramshackle seating & umbrellas for shelter, I loved gettin to the Gettin’ Place! My homemade baked beans with garlic toast fingers were perfection & just the right size. I’m really jack of the current trend cafes have of putting the beans in a teeny ramekin! Coffee was great, this is my go-to in Brizzy forever more!

This place has the right idea, but the execution is a little off. I understand the whole ‘no grill’ concept, but it’s all about flavours where you can’t add the fat. My salad of the day was pretty scrummy. The garlicky croutons went well with chorizo and ripe cherry tomatoes. But the salad was wilted. The ricotta bruschetta lacked any seasoning at all, and no salt and pepper shakers could be seen and we were too hungover to get up and ask. The coffee was pretty ordinary. They have some ‘Sam’s’ juices which were a pretty good UHT alternative to fresh ones.

I’ve been wanting to try here since it opened and why not on a long weekend. I can really appreciate a place that stays open on Good Friday. This is a hole in wall café located just a little past the James Street shopping shopping precinct. In saying that it’s a hole in wall café this does mean that seating is somewhat limited. Your choices to sit in doors are few but there are a fair few tables out back. On a day like today that wasn’t ideal given the wet weather factor but luckily we scooped a table inside. Their menu is a simple, wholesome one. Think Avo on Toast with a green salad and sesame topper, muesli with fresh fruit, tri colour quinoa bowls and toads in a hole. I really, really wanted Toad in a Hole but unfortunately for me they were sold out on this day so I went with the Avo on toast. What I really loved about this dish was the choices. You can have it as a one slice or two slice dish which I really appreciate. I hate spending money on a huge serve I know I can never finish. Added a boiled egg and some haloumi and I was good to go. Another thing that won me over with this menu was the extras were all a very affordable $ 2. In fact their whole menu was very affordable. A single slice serve of Avo toast was $ 6.50, plus my egg and haloumi side and I’ve spent a cool $ 10. Safe to say thats the cheapest sit down breakfast I’ve had in a long time. The coffee here is good(Toby’s Estate is brewed here) and the service average. I’m willing to let that go because it was Good Friday, there was only two of them and they were pretty busy so I’ve got to cut those girls some slack. For a public holiday, to walk away full, caffeinated and for less than $ 20 ensures I’d definitely make a return trip to The Gettin’ Place.

The Gettin’ Place is a funky little ‘hole-in-the-wall’ café that has recently opened up in New Farm. Decided to try The Gettin’ Place for breakfast with a couple of friends on a rainy Saturday morning. It is pretty small place, with only a few single chairs outside and a couple of tables inside, and when we arrived all the tables were taken! But the super lovely waitress slash barista shuffled a few things around for us and managed to find us somewhere for sit. Because of the size of The Gettin’ Place it doesn’t have full kitchen, meaning breakfast menu is mainly limited to simple toast based dishes, and granola. So if you are looking for an extravagant baked eggs dish, perhaps not the best breakfast venue for you… But, if you are after an some awesome smashed avo it’s definitely a hit! Sometimes there is absolutely nothing wrong with a straight forward and simple menu. I ended up ordering a soy cappuccino and the granola(yes, serious granola fan lately). The waitress even came back and double checked if I wanted normal milk with my granola, or soy… I hadn’t even picked up on that myself! I was impressed. Overall, The Gettin’ Place is super cute, with a simple menu and awesome service. I would definitely go back, but not with a big group of friends!
