Ate here with with 2 adults and 2 children. On a Saturday night the restaurant was busy but the staff were in control and attentive and fast. The staff were friendly with the kids and the food was delicious. Will come again!

Taj Mahal would probably be my favourite Indian restaurant in Brisbane, although I’ve never actually dined in. The service is always friendly and they’re always quick. I’ve definitely frequented a few Indian places in my time and more often than not I find the deliveries are quite skimpy, but The curries from Taj Mahal are always generous and the naan is always large and fluffy. They also have a great deal with the cinemas across the road for a meal for two, wine, and tickets to a movie for around $ 60, which makes it a great place to cop a bargain on a good night out. There are a few other Indian restaurants in New Farm, but if you get the opportunity, make sure you definitely check this place out. When the entire Indian cricket team eats their whenever they’re in town, then you know it’s gotta be pretty good.

Very disappointed, Chicken Tikka Masala curry was watery, the chicken pieces were so dry they were hard to swallow, I think they were cooked the day before. The mixed vegetable curry was much nicer with a bit of flavor, the naan was ok, but very salty. Overall I wished I tried another place, unfortunately we will not be back.

Hands down best Indian in Brisbane. The chicken tikka masala is the best. Nobody else does it like this. Always friendly, great service! Have kept coming back for over 8 years!

Best restaurant in Brisbane. Well my favorite anyways. The chicken tika masala is amazing, if I want to switch it up for some reason I get the lamb vindaloo ‘Indian hot’, and believe it or not it’s actually spicy. Most Indian restaurants I ask for spicy and it’s comes out meh, not this place, they give you what you ask for, finally! The waitstaff is great and attentive and friendly. It’s also BYO, but they charge a corkage fee, a bit annoying but I guess that’s the norm here. you can have good Indian without good naan, and this is GOOD. I try to go once a week

Lovely little Indian place out in Newstead with amazing food and excellent service. I think this might be one of the best, if not the best, Indian restaurant in all of Brisbane. The portions are generous and the service was prompt. I ended up getting the lamb vindaloo, highly recommended. The naan was similarly excellent, fresh and just slightly crisp on the outside yet soft on the inside. The walls are also decorated with pictures of various Indian dignitaries and celebrities that have passed through, always a good sign. If you’re looking for a good Indian place in Brisbane look no further.

Finally went to Taj Mahal last night after years of wanting to. There were four of us, and we got a couple of butter chickens, a chicken tikka masala and a jal frezie. Got a mild, two mediums and a hot. We shared them around and each was absolutely brilliant in its own way. The depth of flavour was amazing and the portions were really good. Naan bread was great as well, and the service was prompt. It was 8pm on a Saturday, but it was less than ten minutes after we ordered that the food was brought out. The only issue that we all had was the level of spiciness was well below what we expected, particularly the medium and hot dishes. We thought the medium would have made a good mild, the hot a good medium etc. Next time we’ll be more explicit about the spice we’re after. Other than that it was brilliant, the best Indian I’ve had in Brisbane, and at $ 113 for 4 people, great value. Highly recommend.

This place is hands down 3 stars — which Unilocal defines as «A-OK», not that there’s anything wrong with that(any Seinfeld fans out there?). The good news is that during the course of my 3 visits here, the meals tended to get a bit better each time. The bad news is that my first meal here was reason alone not to return. We made the mistake of ordering a banquet style set meal for two and regret not having more of a say on our limited options. The tandoori wings were rubbery and cold, and left me kind of traumatized. The Palak Paneer and Pumpking Curry on the other hand are ridiculously delicious and packed with loads of flavor. I think Taj Mahal’s strength lies not in their meat dishes, but perhaps in their veggie options, and suggest you try something along those lines when you dine here.

Taj Mahal should be the standard by which all other Indian restaurants are measured. My partner and I love coming here to eat and I always feel cheated if we have to eat at another Indian restaurant in Brisbane. The staff are always friendly and prompt. Food preparation is fast and the meals are very generous in size. My partner and I usually share a mains with rice and sides of garlic naan bread, papadums and cucumber raita. I challenge anyone to find a better quality meal for $ 30-$ 35 for two people. The thing I appreciate the most about Taj Mahal is the heat of their curries. I enjoy my curries quite hot, but not so much that my glasses start melting into my face. Taj Mahal are incredibly consistent. Rarely is the curry too hot or too mild. There is nothing more disappointing then ordering a hot curry, only to have it come out barely approaching medium. Taj Mahal offer a good selection of alcoholic beverages, but we usually visit the small bottleshop up the road. Taj Mahal charge a small fee for corkage. Booking ahead is generally a good idea on weekends.

This was my first time here and actually my first Indian restaurant experience in Brisbane. It was just what I was hoping for in the vibe, the service and the food. A solid 4 stars all around with the lamb biryani stealing the show. Damn my husband for taking all the leftovers into work today!

I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Taj Mahal. The staff are wonderful — friendly, accommodating and chatty with great service. Their Lamb Madras has been my go-to curry for as long as I’ve lived in New Farm. It’s just excellent. Believe the hype — Taj Mahal is a fantastic restaurant run by great people.

I’ve always struggled to work out how I feel about Taj Mahal in New Farm. Perhaps it’s because I’ve heard so many people wax lyrical about the curries that they’ve never quite lived up to my expectations. That said, the food is quite good, and the vegetarian dishes I had on my last visit were delicious: the Saag Bhajee tasty and the Dal Makhni thick and full of intense flavour. The interior of the restaurant is too brightly lit for my liking, but is usually busy and the atmosphere is good. Prices are fairly standard, with specials and seafood dishes up around the $ 17 mark.

I always feel like the four-armed Ganesha, shoveling in curry as fast as I can. A sign on Taj Mahal’s wall proudly proclaims them as host to the Indian cricket teams of 2004, 2008, 2009, and 2010. I can see why the Indian cricketers keep coming back to Taj Mahal; it must be a welcome taste of home on the other side of the equator. Taj Mahal is the best Indian in Brisbane and since discovering it a few years back I’ve stopped bothering with anywhere else unless someone else has chosen the venue. If I do eat Indian elsewhere I spend the entire meal being the annoying person who says things like ‘this naan is nice, but the one at Taj Mahal isn’t as greasy’ or ‘Oh, they don’t have Chana Masala? Taj Mahal does’. I pity anyone who has to endure an evening with me at an Indian restaurant that inevitably doesn’t live up to Taj Mahal. I’ve always found that one of the best indicators of a good, authentic Indian restaurant is their selection of vegetarian dishes. India has an enormous Hindu population so true Indian cuisine is rich in vegetarian options. If I go to an Indian restaurant and see the usual meat dishes and then just a ‘mixed vegetable curry’, vegie korma, and bombay aloo, alarms bells start to go off. Taj Mahal proves my point with their long list of vegetarian curries that is not only varied, but deviates from the usual token ones you see elsewhere. They will also customise any of their dishes to be vegetarian which is awesome when you’re a vego who’s been craving a vindaloo for the past decade when nowhere does vegie vindaloo. My favourite dishes at Taj Mahal are the palak paneer and chana masala, but I’m yet to have anything there that didn’t blow me away with it’s rich, complex flavours and freshness. It’s a pleasant place to eat in and they also do takeaway. It’s family owned and the staff are lovely and will remember regulars and what you like to order. Whether you’re an Indian cricketer or just a curry fan, Taj Mahal is the best place to go for a feast that would make Ganesha proud.
