First time at this restaurant, I had green chicken curry which was good but my partner had beef massaman which is her favorite the sauce was good but the potatoes were not cooked and half of the beef was chewy gristle which she left on plate, she complained about her meal they offered her a dessert as compensation, of two she chose off the menu they said they did not have, will not be going back !

Mixed reviews but went on a recommendation of a friend of a friends foodie recommendation. It appears there might have been a change of hands/chef since the last few reviews. Great curries, good heat, reasonable prices. Will definitely be back for green chicken curry, duck with veges and beef massaman.

Having previously been to Chai on two occasions, an being impressed with it. I decided to take my Girlfirend to what was once a hidden gem of New Farm. Sadly the food could only be described as terrible. For Entrée we had Fish Cakes and Spring Rolls. They arrived quickly but the fish cakes were rubbery and the spring rolls, just plain. For Mains we had the Beef Massaman(a favourite of mine) and the crispy pork with Asian greens. The sauce of the massaman was up to its usual standard, delicious, layered and creamy. The ‘slow cooked beef’ was close to the worst pieces of meat I have ever seen/eaten/chewed on. The majority of it was just sinew, disgusting, chewy fat, inedible cartilage. We left the majority of the meat on the plate and were not asked once whether we enjoyed our meal as it was evident from the mound of meat that I wouldn’t feed my dog left on the plate. WIth so much competition for Thai in Brisbane, I don’t see where this place gets off serving this. I won’t be going back. Bye Bye Chai Thai.

There is too much great Thai food in this world to settle for anything substandard, so why has Brisbane not stepped up to the plate? I had struggled to find a great Thai place for so long, but last night I tried Chai for the first time. Finally! Somewhere that sells delicious, cheap, authentic Thai close to my home! *insert happy dance here* This restaurant is tiny! And when I say tiny I mean it seats about 14 people at a maximum. There is nothing fancy about it, just simple table settings and one floor staff member taking care of both the dine in orders and the takeaway orders, so I noticed that during the dinner rush things got a little frantic. The place has a cute hole in the wall feel to it. One downside– it is HOT! There isn’t any air conditioning, so be prepared people. With a few diners in a small space body heat becomes apparent and the hard-working ceiling fan doesn’t do much stop it. Our food didn’t take long to come out and it was lovely. Our starters set the tone for what we knew would be a good meal. The ingredients were fresh and the beef in my massaman curry was cooked perfectly. My partners chicken with cashew nuts was also tasty. There isn’t much on offer in the beverage department, mostly just ice teas and soft drink, but it is BYO wine which is always nice. All up our experience, aside from perspiring a little, was fantastic. The food was great, the service was prompt and polite and the bill was remarkably reasonable. I will definitely be coming back to Chai soon for another go at their menu.
